The Vice President of Newsgathering is a senior editorial leader responsible for overseeing newsgathering operations across linear and streaming platforms. The VP supervises editorial direction, and develops forward-looking coverage plans that strengthen the organization’s position as a trusted news leader. This role requires driving strategic coverage of breaking news, special reporting, exclusive interviews and long-term editorial initiatives while proactively managing a futures calendar to plan for key events and high impact tentpole stories.
The position requires deep experience driving digital-first, multiplatform storytelling while maintaining accuracy, fairness, and integrity. The candidate must have managerial expertise to lead a team and the ability to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends), work under tight deadlines and under the changing environment of the newsroom.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee editorial vision and ensure alignment with the mission and journalistic standards.
• Direct daily story assignments for correspondents nationwide and internationally and drive long-term editorial planning and coverage calendars.
• Oversee framing, and editorial priorities across platforms.
• Guide reporters and assignment desk editors on coverage strategy.
• Coordinate rapid deployment, logistics and resource allocation for breaking news across linear broadcasts and streaming platforms.
• Lead real-time decision-making during major developing stories.
• Develop comprehensive coverage plans for major national and international events (elections, natural disasters, political developments, global crises).
• Collaborate with executive producers and digital leaders to ensure cohesive, multiplatform storytelling.
• Partner with show executive producers to shape daily rundowns and editorial tone.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing newsroom team.
• Collaborate with network leadership on innovation in storytelling formats
• The candidate needs to have a well-established list of contacts with community organizations, business leaders, federal and local officials and other news organizations
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required
• Position is based on-site in Miami and requires regular in-office presence to support newsroom operations and leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 5 years of management and leadership experience
• Solid editorial judgment and decision-making skills.
• Managerial expertise to lead a team
• Able to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Experience with digital news platforms and multimedia storytelling
• Experience in budget management and resource allocation
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills for linear and all platforms
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required

• Proven track record managing editorial teams in a fast-paced news environment.
• Deep understanding of U.S. Hispanic audiences and global news landscapes.
• Strong breaking news judgment and crisis leadership skills.
• Demonstrated editorial judgment and sound decision making capabilities
• Ability to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends), work under tight deadlines, to work under pressure, and during breaking news
• Vast knowledge of digital platforms and streaming.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
