Job Title: Photographer, NBC & Telemundo Bay Area
Location: 2450 N. First Street, San Jose, CA (Full-time, on-site)
Position Overview:
NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 are seeking a Photographer to cover local news and participate in the newsgathering and editorial process. This role involves capturing high-quality video, operating ENG equipment, and responding to breaking news while adhering to safety and technical standards.
Responsibilities:
• Cover local news and participate in newsgathering and editorial processes
• Operate camera, sound, lighting, editing equipment, and live truck for live and taped events
• Respond quickly to breaking news and interact with assignment desks, reporters, and other newsroom personnel
• Ensure all safety guidelines and technical standards are followed when operating station-issued equipment
• Capture compelling video and natural sound for newscasts, ensuring quality
• Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles
• Attend editorial meetings and provide insights on visual storytelling
• Collaborate with news management, operations, reporters, and other team members to create informative and engaging news stories
• Perform APC duties or other technical tasks as needed
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in news camera/field photography
• Experience working in a top ten market
• Proficiency in HD lighting, videography, editing (Edius, Premiere Pro), and microwave truck operations
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and handle equipment such as shoulder mount cameras, portable units, and cable reelers
• Must be able to stand for extended periods, especially during breaking news situations
• Experience operating live trucks and portable microwave gear
• Knowledge of ENG field operations, Panasonic P2 workflow, and File Transfer Protocols
• Ability to work in all weather conditions with a high degree of self-sufficiency
• Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Flexible schedule required, including willingness to work 24x7 shifts, long hours, weekends, and holidays with short notice
Preferred Skills:
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
• Strong NPPA-style storytelling skills
• Degree in Broadcast Journalism/Production preferred
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000 DOE
