This is a great opportunity to join a duopoly award-winning investigative unit. This role is responsible for developing, researching, and producing original investigative content across multiple platforms with a strong emphasis on breaking news and topical investigations. The ideal candidate is a tenacious journalist who thrives on uncovering truth, holding the powerful accountable, and collaborating with reporters.
Job Responsibilities
• Conceive, pitch, and develop enterprise and investigative story ideas.
• Identify and pitch consumer and investigative angles on big daily news stories as well as longer-term enterprise stories that are highly promotable and bring about change or reform.
• Write scripts for linear, digital and social media including regular contributions to streaming platforms.
• Conduct in-depth background research, gather documents, and aggressively file/track public records requests.
• Ensure investigative content is included in newscasts and digital platforms on a regular basis.
• Communicate story pitches and developments.
• Cultivate and manage sources, including whistleblowers, experts, and community members.
• Collaborates with show producers to ensure consumer and investigative content is presented dynamically and accurately.
• Ensure all investigative content meets ethical, legal, and journalistic standards.
• Utilize social media videos for investigations increase audience engagement.
Qualifications
• 5 years of experience in investigative producing or reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of FOIA/public records processes.
• Experience analyzing court records and government databases.
• Excellent research, writing, and storytelling skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.
• High level of discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive information.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding of media law and investigative best practices.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Must submit a resume/CV online as well as a link to recent work.
• Must be willing to work at the station in Miramar.
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
Desired Characteristics
• Experience with court documents, government databases, and financial records.
• Familiarity with editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, AVID) and newsroom CMS.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
• Prior experience working on collaborative investigative team.
