General Responsibilities: As a Story Producer for Noticiero Telemundo San Diego (KUAN) you will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing content for daily news broadcasts. When needed, you will also fill-in to produce, organize and coordinate all elements involved in creating a newscast.
Job Responsibilities
• Work directly with VP of News, Executive Producer, Producers, Assignment Editor, Anchors, reporter and production crews in overall news production.
• Be knowledgeable about daily news events, current events and know what is trending in the market.
• Research, write and edit content for our daily newscast and digital platforms
• When needed, organize the rundown and line produce
• Contribute story ideas daily, create graphics, assign & edit news-copy
• Work closely with fellow story producers, producers, executive producer and news director on story/sweeps planning and coordination
• Copy-edit reporter scripts
• Incorporate digital media strategy into newscasts
• Produce specials as assigned
• Salary range: $55k-$65k (hourly role)
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• A degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, or related field
• A minimum 1- or 2-years' news writing experience
• Spanish language proficiency (reading and writing)
• Strong writing and tease writing skills
• Exceptional editorial skills
• Must ensure accuracy, integrity and balance of the news content
• Must have good time-management skills.
• Excellent news instincts with the ability to react decisively to breaking news.
• At least 1 year prior news editing experience in a professional medium to large sized broadcast market or digital environment or equivalent
• Ability to work in a team and across all departments and locations, ensuring that news as published is 100% accurate without typos or errors.
• Flexible, with a willingness to undertake shift work associated with working for a 24/7 news operation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of AP Style writing and guidelines.
