NBC and Telemundo San Diego - Assignment Editor
Location: San Diego, California

NBC and Telemundo San Diego are seeking an experienced Assignment Editor to support news gathering and comprehensive coverage across multiple platforms. The Assignment Editor will play a key role in sourcing and developing news stories, coordinating logistics, and ensuring smooth operations within the newsroom.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and source compelling story ideas using strong editorial judgment
• Coordinate interviews, logistics, and assignments for field crews
• Maintain contact with law enforcement, fire departments, and other agencies to assess spot news coverage
• Lead editorial meetings, contribute story ideas, and build key contacts for news coverage
• Oversee live feed and signal intake, and manage daily beat checks
• Assign photographers to reporters and communicate updates in the field
• Maintain accurate records of the day’s events within the Assignment Desk system
• Update news stories on various platforms, including websites and social media
• Utilize newsroom automation systems, online storage, and media acquisition tools
• Experience with microwave, satellite, and cellular bonded technology

Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Assignment Editor in a mid to major market
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and newsroom systems
• Knowledge of television news techniques, including story assembly and coverage
• Ability to multitask and make quick decisions under pressure
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Experience with coordinating satellite feeds and signals

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience
• Bilingual in Spanish
• Familiarity with state and federal court procedures, local contacts, and legal considerations for news production
• Strong social media and multi-platform knowledge
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

This full-time, on-site position is located at NBC and Telemundo San Diego. Salary range is $66,000 - $80,000 per year.
