Telemundo Houston (KTMD) is seeking an Assignment Desk Editor to assist in the efficient operation of the assignment desk. The role involves monitoring news sources, coordinating field crew logistics, and ensuring comprehensive coverage of news stories across all platforms, including broadcast and digital.
Responsibilities:
• Assemble the daybook on i-news, listing story ideas and newsworthy events.
• Monitor police and emergency scanners and other sources for breaking news.
• Coordinate interviews and logistics for field crews.
• Ensure coverage of all news stories across broadcast, digital, and web platforms.
• Collaborate with producers, reporters, photographers, and other newsroom personnel during breaking news or emergencies.
• Participate in editorial meetings, developing story ideas using strong editorial judgment.
• Cultivate contacts important to news coverage in the Houston area.
• Work with Public Information Officers for updates on events and incidents.
• Follow local news channels to monitor coverage.
• Assist with special projects, including undercover work during sweeps.
• Edit videos for broadcast and social media.
• Plan and manage news coverage as directed by news management.
• Answer phones and take notes on viewer calls for potential story leads.
Qualifications:
