Full Time Job
The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking an experienced professional to help reimagine, build, and solidify a comprehensive Mental Performance program in our minor league system. This role will use their experience to cultivate trust throughout our staff and create programs that will fit seamlessly into our player development plans. This person will collaborate across multiple departments to create lessons and materials aimed at improving our players in all relevant areas including preparation, resiliency, and focus. Our new hire will also work to equip our affiliate coaches with the knowledge and tools to be ambassadors for our Mental Performance program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Communicate with our Player Development staff to understand the needs of our athletes
• Create mental skills curriculum for players and staff that folds into our current player programs
• Deliver impactful lessons and presentations to player and staff audiences
• Build customized programs for one-on-one instruction
• Research and vet the latest findings in the field of performance psychology to ensure our program stays on the leading edge of science and application
• Collect data and create viable measures to quantify the impact of our mental skills program
• Document service provided to groups and individuals
• Maintain consistent collaboration and communication with other mental performance coaches
• Execute the implementation of impactful services during Spring Training (February-March), travel to assigned affiliates of the course of the season (April-August); conduct sessions during Instructional League (September – October); participate in off-season camps (November – January)
• Model the behaviors of humility, trust, leadership, empathy, and respect
Skills
& Education:
• Graduate degree in Sport Psychology (or related field)
• Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) preferred
• 2 years experience working in a military, sports, or elite performance setting
• Experience and knowledge in baseball strongly preferred
• Fluent in Spanish preferred
