Description:
The Rays Baseball Operations Summer Internship is designed for rising collegiate juniors and seniors to gain experience working for a Major League Baseball team. This position will allow the individual to gain experience in numerous aspects of Baseball Operations including, but not limited to, analysis of player performance, administrative support, video editing, and scouting. We are looking for candidates who are curious, organized, and have a passion for unique research-based projects. We will work around semester timelines to ensure our intern can balance school responsibilities and this summer baseball opportunity.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with daily administrative tasks, including but not limited to maintaining department spreadsheets, data entry, and filing.
• Work with a variety of baseball operations staff on assigned projects.
• Participate in the Rays Fellowship and Internship Program (FIP) to gain knowledge in our thought processes. This program will allow you to develop or refine proficiency in coding languages, such as R and SQL, utilized in a sports context.
• Creatively pursue ways to improve internal processes.
• Compile statistics on amateur and professional players.
• Assist with assigned reports, player research, and analysis.
• Help organize the video database.
Qualifications:
• Must be a rising collegiate junior or senior in 2024
• Strong computer, organizational, time management, and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
• Ability to prioritize efficiently and multitask in dynamic situations.
• High level of curiosity and enthusiasm for developing a career in baseball and a desire to grow your professional sports knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work non-traditional hours in a non-traditional setting, as necessitated by the baseball calendar.
• Openness to travel between Tropicana Field, Rays Player Development Complex, and various assigned locations.
• Must relocate to St. Petersburg, Florida, for the duration of the internship.
