Full Time Job
Our Documentary Film Program Director plays a highly visible leadership role at Sundance Institute. They will work collaboratively with strategic partners and internal teams to support filmmakers worldwide at all stages of creating and distributing new cinematic nonfiction. The Program Director also works to advance and elevate the health of the independent nonfiction field, ensures diverse forms, viewpoints, and participants are included in all programs and collaborates across the Institute to lead certain cross-disciplinary artist-support initiatives and programs.
Essential Job Functions and Duties:
• Leads ongoing nonfiction program strategy, evaluation, planning, and improvement. Current programs include Llabs, international and national partnerships and programs, Film Funds/Awards and Producing Fellowship Summit.
• Cultivates national and international partnerships to create a rich and wide network and to be an active leader in the field.
• Manages staff, includes selecting and training highly effective staff, providing direction, feedback, and support to ensure employees understand responsibilities and are effective in their roles, and delegates appropriate and meaningful work.
• Leads staff to continually improve processes, procedures and services to support artists and ensure they have a transformative experience and that Sundance is seen as a model for artist support worldwide.
• Designs and executes concepts for new programs working collaboratively with the Executive Director, cross programs, and operations to ensure the Institute stays relevant and meets current and future needs.
• Oversees the Documentary Labs, workshops, artist grants and funding, and other resources to ensure program priorities are supported.
• Actively participates in Fundraising for the Documentary Program and Institute bringing in new prospects and supporting existing patrons when needed.
• Represent the Institute nationally and internationally to the Documentary community and other stakeholders.

Position Requirements:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 10 years of leadership experience within an arts nonprofit or similar industry as a Global Program Director.
• Bachelor's degree in Film.
• Strong leadership and the ability to build strong relationships and teams while working across the organization in order to drive results.
• Extensive skills in non-fiction programming, broadcasting, curating and producing with a strong knowledge of national and international documentary film history, trends and community.
• Experience and demonstrated ability to flourish in a hands-on, highly collaborative, growth environment.
• Deep knowledge of best practices in all areas of documentary film.
• Demonstrated ability to strategize, set, and meet goals.
• A genuine passion for and excitement about Sundance Institute's not-for-profit mission, and a culture defined by collaboration, curiosity, and creativity.
• Commitment to collaborative, team-driven work.
• Well-developed communication and presentation skills-able to articulate a creative vision that effectively promotes the Institute's diverse efforts and is clear and inspiring to internal and external stakeholders.
