Employment dates: Wednesday, October 21, 2020, thru Wednesday, February 3, 2021
Pay rate: $969.00 per week
Location: This position is located in Park City, Utah.
Considerations: Required to work extended hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet deadlines. Must be willing and available to respond to on-call needs as assigned.
Position Summary: Manages the editorial integrity of various print and digital publications for the Sundance Film Festival, including training and overseeing one editor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leads editing, fact-checking, and proofreading of the Festival catalog, website content, and additional publications.
• Supervises one editor, including assigning tasks, managing workloads, and tracking individual and team deadlines.
• Trains editor on in-house style, makes on-the-spot style decisions, and assists in updating style guide as needed.
• Reviews and approves editor's work; provides honest, direct feedback; and resolves conflicting opinions with the editor, writers, and other stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 3 years of editing experience.
• Advanced knowledge of writing, grammar, usage, spelling, and The Chicago Manual of Style and/or The Associated Press Stylebook-including the ability to train others (qualified candidates will be invited to take an editing test).
• Working knowledge of databases along with proficiency in Google Drive (especially Docs' Suggesting mode).
• Leadership skills with a background that includes managing people.
• Outstanding communication skills to work effectively with a wide variety of people, including the ability to negotiate editorial decisions in a tactful manner and respond gracefully to suggestions and feedback from the editor, writers, and other stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills, including self-management of work schedule.
• Must be able to maintain confidential information.
• Ability to work nights and weekends around events and key deadlines.
Preferred Education
, Experience and Skills:
• Completed coursework in copyediting.
• Knowledge of InDesign, typesetting, HTML, and Excel is a plus.
