POSITION OVERVIEW
The Temporary Manager, Women at Sundance Institute oversees administrative and programmatic operations for multi-disciplinary artist support initiatives, including fellowships, awards, project granting, and field-wide leadership and advocacy. This position will manage the complete fellowship lifecycle from selection through execution, cultivating artist relationships, designing development sessions, and ensuring a positive cohort experience. The manager partners with Sundance Institute staff and funders to maintain program quality and strategic alignment. Additionally, the Manager acts as a primary liaison for fellows, industry professionals, advisors, and internal teams, including seasonal staff and interns.
Working closely under the Director, Artist Accelerator & Women at Sundance Institute, the Manager facilitates the Institute's mission to bolster the artist pipeline via cross-disciplinary grants and fellowships for women and gender-diverse storytellers. Beyond direct artist engagement, the role involves collaborating with partner organizations and industry stakeholders to champion systemic change through field-wide advocacy. The Manager will also act as the department's budgeting lead, ensuring strategic and precise financial management in coordination with the Director and the Finance team.
This temporary position works full time (40 hours per week) from Wednesday, September 9, 2026 through Friday, June 4, 2027 and is based within a commutable distance to Boulder, CO, Los Angeles, CA, or New York, NY. The role requires flexibility, including extended hours, evenings, and weekends during peak periods, as well as travel to Institute locations, events, and meetings as needed.
Top priorities include but are not limited to:
• Handling a variety of administrative tasks such as coordinating stakeholder meetings, and maintaining program timelines and databases.
• Overseeing the full lifecycle of fellowships (Momentum Fellowship), award (Leadership Award), and granting opportunities, ensuring an equitable and organized experience for all participants.
• Developing one sheets and information booklets for nominated Leadership Award individuals, Momentum Fellowship finalists, and other initiatives as needed to share with partners.
• Managing application launches, including working with the Survey Monkey team, proofing materials, hiring reviewers, scheduling review panels and acting as the primary liaison for applicant inquiries.
• Reviewing and assessing applications for Women at Sundance Institute and Artist Accelerator Programs.
• Managing fellow contracting, liaising with the marketing team to gather artist information for press releases, finance team to ensure timely grant payments, and legal team to ensure contracting.
• Offering strategic and creative feedback to artists participating in Women at Sundance Institute and Artist Accelerator Programs.
• Developing and leading industry and professional development sessions for Women at Sundance Institute grantees and fellows (Activities may include designing curriculum, engaging with advisors, and liaising with artists).
• Cultivating artists and their projects for consideration in future opportunities through Women at Sundance Institute, Artist Accelerator, and other Sundance Institute initiatives.
• Producing an annual calendar tracking professional development, mentorships, and networking events in partnership with Artist Accelerator staff.
• Assisting the Advancement team with funder stewardship and the preparation of required reports.
• Overseeing the department's digital presence by maintaining the website.
• Collaborating with marketing to highlight artist achievements via sundance.org through blog posts, press releases, and other press moments.
• Monitoring industry trends to proactively address gaps in program offerings for fellows and grantees.
• Collaborating with the other department Manager on the Mentorship Program, ensuring we have a robust database of potential mentors and leading mentor matching, and mid-program check-ins to ensure success.
• Managing Professional Coaching track with our external professional coach, including scheduling orientation meetings and managing program feedback.
• Overseeing program evaluations including drafting, sending and reviewing participant feedback surveys during the fellowship and after its completion.
• Producing Women at Sundance Institute events, and supporting other department projects as needed.
• Producing the Women at Sundance Festival Celebration Brunch in partnership with the Production Agency (technical lead), Funding partners, advancement, and the events team by overseeing the creative direction for the event, liaising between the different stakeholders, managing invite lists, working with events and production staff on marketing materials, identifying panelists, reviewing ROS, booking travel for guests.
• Providing onsite support during the Festival Celebration Brunch, including talent management, partner relations, and event flow management.
• Hosting Women at Sundance Institute fellows and alumni during the Sundance Film Festival; developing bespoke schedules for the artists including industry meetings, welcome meals, group screenings, and other activations.
• Scheduling and coordinating all activities related to Fellows during the Festival.
• Managing the Women at Sundance Institute budget including completing monthly actuals and working closely with the Director during budgeting, planning, and forecasting.
• Driving field-building initiatives, specifically focused on representation, and working collaboratively with field-wide partners like WIF, Paley Center for Media, and Femme Fatale.
• Managing relationships with potential partners and non-profit partners.
• Developing Collab programming in partnership with our Collab team focused on representation, W@SI initiatives, and centering women and gender diverse-artists in the conversation.
You have the following direct or transferable qualifications and skills:
• 3 years of progressively responsible program management, community building/outreach, artist support or related experience.
• Ability to positively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong project management skills, with ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
• Strategic planning and facilitation skills.
• Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Passion for artists, independent film, theater, and storytelling preferred.
• Strong knowledge of arts and culture nonprofit organizations preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass MVR authorization check.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
