This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Producers Program Intern will support different projects related to planning three essential artist program activities: the 2023 Producers Lab, Producers Summit, and Development Track. This role will focus on fiction feature film and work from Monday, June 19, 2023 to Friday, August 4, 2023. This part-time (3 days per week) internship is based out of our Los Angeles, CA office in order to work onsite in a hybrid capacity throughout its duration. While the intern will not travel to Utah, whenever possible, they will participate in the Lab and Summit's digital components and engage directly with program participants.
Working closely under the direction of the Director, Producing & Artist Support, the Producers Program Intern supports Sundance Institute's commitment to conducting robust artist outreach, designing and executing dynamic, interactive programmatic activity, and providing ongoing creative and strategic support to emerging independent feature filmmakers, across all underrepresented groups.
This internship will focus on:
• Learning the fundamentals of how independent films get made and understanding the state of the field, with a focus on the key role of the Producer.
• Gaining valuable digital programming and administrative skills by supporting the planning and execution of the annual Producers Lab and Producers Summit.
• Developing critical thinking skills and increased confidence navigating a virtual workplace at the intersection of the arts, nonprofit and entertainment industry sectors.
• Learning how to evaluate and provide feedback on work-in-progress screenplays by participating in the outreach and review process for the annual Development Track (which supports projects in the screenplay stage).
Through this internship, the participant will…
• Engage actively in the preparation and execution of the 2023 Feature Film Producers Lab and Producers Summit.
• Research and track emerging filmmakers with exciting work samples and present findings to the Feature Film Program team for future Development Track and Producers Track outreach consideration.
Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Assisting with logistics and administrative preparations for the annual Producers Lab and Producers Summit; provide administrative support during both programs including but not limited to copyediting, scheduling, database entry, and tracking, and as well as participate in select digital activities.
• Researching and ideating programmatic content as well as managing administrative and logistical tasks to ensure a successful program.
• Maintaining SurveyMonkey Apply submission database with required and updated information; assisting with submission notifications process, as directed.
• Assisting with the artist submission review process for the annual Development Track, as needed.
• Reading and providing coverage (written feedback) on submitted projects including work-in-progress screenplays.
• Managing the up-and-coming artist tracking database; researching and recording new industry, artist organization and film festival talent discoveries, as directed.
• Assisting with planning for year-round department work and special projects as needed.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• General computer skills, including Google Apps and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Candidates must be highly detail-oriented and have excellent time management and analytical skills.
• Strong interest in independent film and independent storytellers working in the feature film space.
Preferred Education
, Experience, and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree or working towards a degree in Film or a related field.
• Experience working with databases.
