Part Time Unpaid Internship
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Intern, Documentary Film Program (Fund) is charged with assisting in the granting process for the Documentary Fund, including the application and review process and artist support for alumni artists and projects. This part-time role will work remotely September 7, 2022 through Friday, December 16, 2022, for 20 hours per week.
Working closely under the direction of the Manager, Documentary Film Fund, the Documentary Film Program Intern supports Sundance Institute's commitment to the discovery and development of independent artists from the United States and around the world.
This internship will focus on:
• Advancing your knowledge on the qualifications and duties needed to evaluate documentary film projects at various stages of development, production and post-production.
• Gaining an understanding of what Artist Support entails within a nonprofit arts organization.
• Gaining an understanding of the skills and knowledge needed for success in the workplace and an introduction into the independent global documentary landscape.
Through this internship, the participant will…
• Assist in the submission, review and feedback process for the Documentary Fund and associated speciality funds by writing feedback summaries on assigned projects and engaging in team conversations about the projects.
• Research and track up-and-coming directors and producers that apply to our programs.
• Provide administrative assistance for the year-round tracking and support of prospective and alumni Documentary Film Program artists, including artist meetings and rough-cut reviews.
• Provide administrative assistance with the Documentary Film Program database.
Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Assisting with the documentary fund application intake process.
• Reviewing and evaluating active applications, which includes reviewing written materials and video footage.
• Collecting, organizing and updating content for the documentary fund section on the Institute's website.
• Identifying and then conducting outreach with documentary filmmakers, industry and advisors via phone and email.
• Assisting with the creation of presentation materials, bio sheets and FAQ sheets as directed.
• Managing the Documentary Film Program monthly newsletter
• Other duties as assigned.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Detailed oriented, with a proactive work ethic and strong organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products.
• Strong interest in documentary film, arts administration, or a nonprofit career.
• Must be flexible, energetic and eager to contribute to an amazing arts organization.
Preferred Education
, Experience and Skills:
• Experience working in an office environment.
• Bachelor's degree or working towards a Master's degree in film, human rights, non-profit management, anthropology or related.
• Experience evaluating film submissions.
• Experience with data entry and running reports within a database.
