POSITION OVERVIEW
The Coordinator, Humanities Fellowship, Institute Granting is charged with providing administrative and programmatic support to the Sundance Institute | Humanities Fellowship Program. This Fellowship supports 20 mediamakers with monthly sustainability stipends, mentorship, and advice from humanities advisors. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful administration of the initiative from mediamaker selection to program review, including serving as the main point of contact for the 20 mediamakers and humanities advisors awarded through the program.
Working closely under the direction of the Director, Institute Granting, the Coordinator supports Sundance Institute's commitment to discovering and championing independent film and media artists from the United States.
This full-time role will work remotely from Wednesday, December 1, 2021 through Friday, December 30th 2022. Extended hours, including evenings and weekends may be required at key points.
Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Managing the activities related to the Sundance National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fund, including outreach, reviewing submissions, participating in key decision making meetings, and selections.
• Working closely with the Documentary Film Program, Indigenous Program, Outreach and Inclusion Department, and Interdisciplinary Program to share opportunities with their alumni.
• Coordinating program timelines and overseeing key processes, including submission, multi-stage review, selection, and grant-making and contracting processes.
• Collaborating with the team to review artist's submissions and identify the best projects to support.
• Working with the Director, Institute Granting to identify screeners and panelists for selections and evaluation while ensuring humanities representation.
• Working with the Director, Institute Granting to identify humanities advisors and scheduling monthly check-in meetings with them.
• Coordinating selections and notifications, ensuring a timely and efficient process.
• Drafting contracts and payment requests and working with Finance to process monthly stipends and confirm recipients eligibility status.
• Serving as the main point of contact for grantees and scheduling monthly check-in meetings with them; collecting and tracking updates for reports, program review, and evaluation.
• Supporting connections between mediamakers and their humanities advisors, including scheduling zoom and sending reminders.
• Gathering program feedback from artists, advisors, and the field to inform a program evaluation.
• Coordinating with Advancement to ensure timely delivery of reports and evaluations.
• Providing creative and tactical support to grantees, including watching cuts and providing feedback, pitch preparation, connecting grantees to humanities or film advisors and connecting artists to opportunities offered through Sundance Institute Collab or other programs.
• Representing the Institute on panels and at Forums when appropriate.
• Identifying opportunities within the field to share learnings, creating opportunities for collaboration between the field of humanities and film.
• Supporting the Director to ensure that Institute Granting is applying best practices and protocols developed in partnerships with other funders and partners with all our grantees.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 2 years directly related experience, including grant management.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple timelines and priorities and accuracy in recording, tracking, and issuing information.
• Experience with documentary production, programming, research, and working in the humanities fields.
• Strong evaluative skills specifically with an ability to evaluate Documentary Film and provide creative feedback.
• Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to collaborate effectively and affect change by applying best practices.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Working knowledge databases along with proficiency in Google Products preferred.
• Knowledge of basic web tools such as HTML, Photoshop, and InDesign preferred.
