Founded in 2017 by Academy Award®-winning manager-producer Michael Sugar, Sugar23 is an emerging management and creative platform. We specialize in creating original, premium content across all media, incubating and investing in brands and companies, and providing strategic advisory for branding, production, and other go-to-market needs for companies across industries and stages.
We are currently seeking a friendly and professional Accounting Manager to support the CFO and broader Management team. Our finance and accounting team is strong but lean. We work to ensure we are addressing the financial and operational needs of our business, while staying true to our unique culture that embraces the many possibilities of what our platform can be. This position will be located in our LA office and will report to the CFO.
Your Roles & Responsibilities
• Manage the accounting activities while handling all day-to-day responsibilities, including but not limited to, accounts receivables and payables, cash receipts and disbursements, general ledger, bank transactions and reconciliations, check runs, and fixed assets.
• Perform our period end financial close processes and related activities, including but not limited to, developing accruals, analyzing and reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and post and process adjustment entries to ensure complete and accurate financials in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Review contracts related to management, content and brand projects and support the general ledger accounting and reporting, including revenue recognition, production cost accruals and related participations/shares and commissions.
• Review the commissions and management fee calculations for accruals and payments.
• Prepare internal consolidated financial statements, stand-alone subsidiary and divisional profit and loss statements.
• Drive continuous process improvement and automation efforts to standardize and streamline policies, procedures, and systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function.
• Partner with operation teams to research and analyze transactions to ensure accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
• Refer requests and issues to the appropriate party in a timely basis.
• Assist in the preparation of KPIs to key stakeholders (Department Heads, Board of Directors, S23 Leadership)
• Interact with Director of Finance and/or CFO to provide required company data necessary for forecasting and budgeting purposes.
• Assist and provide support for the external financial statement reporting and tax by preparing schedules as needed.
• Participate in Company special projects and initiatives.
Your Superhuman Skills
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, in entertainment or media industry.
• Big 4 or other public accounting firm experience preferred but not required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA or working towards CPA license preferred.
• Strong understanding and knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and standards (U.S. GAAP)
• Proficiency in MS Office and QuickBooks Enterprise experience required.
• Excellent time management skills; and critical thinker with solid problem-solving skills
• Execute on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
• Comfortable working with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Embrace being a team player demonstrating a collaborative style with outstanding communication skills; written, verbal and presentation.
• Ability to conduct accounting research and summarize results accurately and independently.
