Position Overview
Status: Full-Time / Permanent
Hours: 30+ hours per week
Start Date: Positions available for onboarding are ongoing
Location: Split between our Bay Area workshop and various on-site event venues (All positions work in the shop and on-site for setup/load-out)
Schedule: Project-dependent; must be comfortable with occasional early mornings or late-night strikes.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Finishing: Execute high-quality paint treatments, faux finishes, textures, and aging/distressing on walls, floors, and custom props.
Foam Sculpting: Assist in the creation of 3D elements through hand-carving, hot wire work, and hard-coating.
Collaborative Building: Work alongside our carpentry team to provide input on material choices and prep surfaces for final finishes.
On-Site Touch-ups: Travel to event sites to ensure everything looks flawless after transport and installation.
Shop Maintenance: Manage paint inventory, clean spray equipment, and maintain a safe, organized workspace.
Requirements
Portfolio: Strong background in scenic painting, fine arts, or decorative finishing (theatre or film experience is a huge plus).
Technical Skill: Proficiency with sprayers (HVLP/airless), rollers, brushes, and various mediums (acrylics, epoxies, foams, etc.).
Mobility: Must live in the Bay Area and have a valid current driver's license to drive company vehicles to job sites.
Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Eye for Detail: Ability to match colors by eye and follow specific brand guidelines or designer renderings.
