Part Time Unpaid Internship
The internship, a ''virtual literary assistantship,'' involves a full range of assistance in the publishing and entertainment businesses for Dr. Kenneth Atchity's several Story Merchant companies:
Storymerchant (including Story Merchant Books) -- Aeionline-- AtchityProductions -- Atchity Brothers Entertainment, LLC -- The Writer's Lifeline, Inc.
Specifically, interns will primarily perform reading, which includes providing ''coverage'' of screenplays and novels under consideration for representation and/or production. Also: opportunities to do proposal research, film research and internet implementation duties on specific literary publishing and film/television projects and on the Story Merchant publishing slate.
Dozens of our interns have gone on to work for us as freelance editors, writers, and analysts.
Those with experience in the field, those who have done coverage before, or who have studied film and/or literature in school will be considered for the internship above those with little to no experience. Opportunity will be sought to further educate the intern in the commercial literary and film industry fields.
Punctuality, energy, drive, responsibility, and a command of literacy in English are essentials. Intern must be familiar with WORD, MS Excel, Final Draft, and social networking; must commit to completing at least one coverage minimum per week (anywhere from 2-8 hours), and must commit to a minimum of sixteen weeks, though longer internships, if for academic credit or career coaching opportunities, are particularly welcome. Interns who complete the cycle are eligible for (a) renewal; (b) consideration for a Story Merchant Apprenticeship; or (c) paid assignments.
Dr. Atchity is a Yale PhD (comparative literature), former Fulbright professor, literary manager and producer of 30+ films, author of numerous books, editor, writing coach, who has worked in the world of commercial storytelling for nearly forty years. He currently has dozens of projects in development with nearly every studio and production company, and is publisher of Story Merchant Books, ''an incubator of new voices,'' which has launched hundreds of books in the past five years.
Available immediately. Upon application, please submit resume, a writing sample and/or previous coverage sample if you have one, two email-only references, and make known your reading preferences (scripts, manuscripts or both). Applicants being considered may be asked to do a sample coverage.
