Position Summary
The Stockton Kings are seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Engagement Intern to support the organization's community engagement initiatives, special events, and game day operations. This internship provides hands-on experience within a professional sports organization and exposure to community impact, event execution, fan engagement, and business operations.
Reporting to the Director of Business Operations & Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Intern will assist in building meaningful connections between the Stockton Kings and the greater Stockton community. The intern will support community programs, nonprofit and civic partnerships, charitable initiatives, appearances, and special events.
On Stockton Kings home game days, the intern will also support the Sales & Service team, helping execute game day initiatives and deliver a positive experience for fans, clients, and guests.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the planning, coordination, and execution of Stockton Kings community programs, outreach initiatives, and special events.
• Assist with maintaining relationships and communication with nonprofit organizations, community partners, civic organizations, and other local stakeholders.
• Support the coordination of player, coach, mascot, and staff appearances, including scheduling, event logistics, and on-site execution.
• Assist with charitable contributions, donation requests, community ticket programs, and related tracking and fulfillment.
• Support community-focused theme nights and other initiatives that connect the Stockton Kings with the local community.
• Represent the Stockton Kings at community events and activations in a professional and positive manner.
• Assist with maintaining calendars, databases, event recaps, program participation records, and other departmental materials.
• Help identify opportunities to expand community participation and strengthen awareness of Stockton Kings community initiatives.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Ticket Sales, Partnerships, and other departments on community programs and events as needed.
Qualifications
• Current college student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Relations, or a related field preferred.
• Interest in community impact, professional sports, live events, marketing, or business operations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with community partners, fans, clients, and colleagues.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments.
• Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to take initiative.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, preferred.
• Previous community engagement, volunteer, customer service, sports, or event experience is a plus.
• Ability to maintain professionalism when representing the Stockton Kings in the community and at team events.
Schedule & Physical Requirements
• Must be available to work Stockton Kings home games, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Must have flexibility to attend community events and appearances, which may occur outside traditional business hours.
• Ability to stand and move throughout events and game days for extended periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in support of event and game day setup and breakdown.
To qualify for Kings University internships, you must be:
• Currently enrolled in college or have graduated within 12 months
• Able to commute to the Stockton office
• Able to work up to 25 hours per week
Salary/Benefits
$17.50 /hour USD
Interns will be compensated $17.50 per hour.
