Sportico is hiring an Editor to join the award-winning sports business news publication.
We are seeking an Editor with news judgment and sports business or financial reporting experience to join a fluid and real-time multimedia newsroom. Candidates must have a sharp eye for copy, grammar and AP Style, along with the ability to write clear and concise headlines. Experience with SEO optimization, photo editing, newsletter production or social media engagement is preferred.
Reporting and writing in addition to editing is expected with this role, which will be responsible for the weekend operations of the site on Sundays in addition to weekly duties. Experience managing junior reporters is a plus, as is familiarity with financial markets and government regulatory space. Sportico is committed to the business of sports, and knowledge of business operating procedure, accounting or corporate earnings is preferred.
Responsibilities:
• This candidate must be comfortable working with a diverse array of voices and proficient with both short and long-form stories.
• Writing opportunities and development of editorial products are included in this role, which will be active during normal business hours from Sunday through Thursday.
• Occasional night, weekend or special assignment duties may be required.
Requirements:
• 5 years of sports or business editing experience
• 5 years of copy editing experience are required
• Strong editing and writing skills to produce market-moving stories in a fast-paced environment
• A commitment to accuracy and news judgment under tight deadlines
• The ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, complete assignments on time and follow up with a strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with WordPress, Exact Target, MS Office and SEO is preferred
Typical wage range: $80k-90k
Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
