Sportico is hiring an Associate Editor to join our award-winning sports business news publication.

We are seeking an Associate Editor with news judgment, decision-making ability and sports business or financial reporting experience to join a fluid and real-time multimedia newsroom. Candidates must have a sharp eye for copy, grammar and AP Style, along with the ability to write clear and concise headlines. Experience with newsletter production, SEO optimization, photo editing, and social media engagement is preferred.

Candidates must be adaptable and able to work on deadline in a fast news environment. We are a business publication with the utmost commitment to accuracy. Editorial integrity and a willingness to uphold standards are a must. Sportico embraces a startup mentality and with it the ability to fulfill multiple duties and create new projects. While this role will primarily focus on copy and line editing, it will also include reporting, writing and editorial product development opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• A commitment to accuracy and news judgment under tight deadlines.
• Must be comfortable working with a diverse array of voices and proficient with both short and long-form stories.
• Monitor news flow and trending topics; ideate and assign stories as needed.
• Work during normal business hours, though occasional night, weekend or special assignment duties may be required.
• An ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, complete assignments on time and follow up with a strong attention to detail.

Requirements:
• 3-5 years of editing experience, preferably in the business, finance or sports business industries. Reporting experience is a prerequisite for this role.
• Strong editing and writing skills to produce market-moving stories in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with SEO, WordPress, Exact Target, Google Analytics and social media engagement Is preferred.

Typical wage range: $75k – 85k

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees.
