Senior Manager Lighting Systems

The primary responsibility of the Manager of Lighting Systems is to assist the Director of Lighting System operations in the Sphere and adjacent spaces, manage and maintain the Production Department lighting equipment and venue lighting systems. This position will assist in coordination with MSG Studios for the implementation of new shows lighting files and file uploads and facilitate lighting discussions and programming with outside productions. This may include pre-production meetings with the MSG Studios & guest productions, organizing how best to accomplish the planned events throughout the performance.

What will you do?
• People Management
o Assist Director in managing lighting teams responsible for Sphere’s architectural and theatrical house lighting plot in the main dome, atrium and supporting areas. You will direct both union and non-union labor to include hiring, training, and scheduling.
• Business / Process Management
o Assist in participation in pre-Opening collaboration with MSG Studios, Ventures, and Venue Operations departments to develop standard operating procedures for all venue lighting systems.
o Participate in the planning, documenting, training, and commissioning of systems as they are carried through from their final design phases to opening night. Track costs against event, programming, and maintenance budgets.
o Ensure maintenance, handling, and inventory of both in house and rental lighting equipment while ensuring that all lighting needs are scheduled and met.
o Oversee transition from day of event activities to the load out of all equipment for assigned events.
• Event Management
o Oversee the install and operation of lighting systems throughout the entire event. Oversee proper control board operation & programming.
o Accommodate artist and/or event lighting requirements and implement all lighting changes at the direction of the Event Director
o Assist with the technical advance with Artist’s representatives and troubleshoot event day issues while being highly responsive to emergencies in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.

What do you need to succeed?
• 7 years working experience in lighting design, lighting tech and / or lighting for film, television, live events, and/or themed entrainment .
• Technical knowledge surrounding production lighting specific items involving but not limited to MA2, MA3, sACN, Art-Net, Timecode and show control systems, ETC Architectural systems. Additionally, strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
