Sphere Entertainment Co. is looking for a Director of Production to join a highly collaborative production department based in Los Angeles. As the creative content shop for Sphere projects, we strive to deliver content that has never been witnessed before on displays that have never been seen at this scale. This role will direct a team of managers, coordinators and assistants while overseeing the day-to-day production logistics of multiple Residencies and Touring Acts while developing budgets, and schedules in adherence to studio polices.
Reporting to the VP of Production, the primary focus of this role will be ensuring the productions for our Residencies and Touring Acts are fully supported creatively, technically, and logistically while maintaining fiscal responsibility. You will be collaborating with Artists' creatives, producers, show directors, tour managers and production teams. In this role you will be responsible for liaising with Sphere Live Events and Venue Operations departments. In addition, you will be providing production support for Sphere sporting events, and corporate partnerships.
The ideal Director of Production has event production experience in live, theatrical or musical events, who possesses the ability to quickly problem solve unforeseen circumstances while maintaining the creative vision of the project. They should have a proven track record of delivering successful projects in accordance with deadlines and locked budgets. Strong interpersonal skills will allow them the ability to manage complex live productions and maintain effective communication with corporate leadership, venue stakeholders, and artists.
What will you do?
• Oversee live productions from development to delivery including production schedules, cost estimates, logistics and technical needs for Sphere digital content creation
• Support the VP of Production in management of resources, budgeting, and scheduling
• Build out multi-project timelines while keeping various departments and corporate leadership informed of key deliverables and benchmarks
• Liaise with internal and external creative and technical departments to ensure that key milestones are met
• Works with Post and external creative teams to manage ingest of media to meet studio and venue specifications
• Proactively works to anticipate and resolve any content or playback issues, and elevate to stakeholders when necessary
• Oversee broadcast efforts in support of live sporting events including boxing, MMA, WWE, F1 and NFL
• Collaborate with Finance to track internal labor costs to be reflected in overall project budgets
• Contribute to weekly inter-departmental meetings
What do you need to succeed?
• 10 years of experience in broadcast and live productions for theater, sports or musical entertainment within various budget levels
• Advanced project management and organizational skills with ability to create executive presentations, budget summaries, production plans, and multi-project timelines, etc.
• Previous experience overseeing live playback and livestreaming productions with the ability to troubleshoot effectively
• Creative problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
• Experience with large format/360 content creation preferred
• A confident, professional, and persuasive communication style
• Ability to motivate team members while fostering growth opportunities
• Prioritization skills in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Strong proficiency in project management software similar to Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Airtable
SUPERVISION:
• Oversees direct reports including production coordinators and production assistants
• This role requires the ability to organize, manage, and lead both internal and external personnel
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
• Role will require travel to/from LA to Las Vegas
• Role may require some travel to locations, domestic and internationally, to oversee creative development, content creation and tech rehearsals
