(I) Production Intern
Internship Purpose
The SXSW Production Department is seeking a highly motivated intern to join our team. This role is ideal for students seeking hands-on experience in large-scale event production. The Production Department manages logistics for SXSW Conference & Festivals, including those for performance stages across SXSW, such as the Comedy, Film, and EDU Festival stages.
What You Will Learn:
• Gain exposure and experience in all aspects of event production.
• Coordination of artists, speakers, vendors, and venues.
• Cultivate a solution-oriented, creative, and quick-thinking mindset required to succeed in event productions.
• The workflow of creating production schedules and timelines for a major festival.
• The process of ''advancing,'' or how production works with artists and speakers to organize the on-site elements of their performance and presentation.
• Venue and vendor acquisition: the process of a walk-through, creating production orders, and working with the City of Austin to conceptualize and complete a large-scale event.
• Event software includes FileMaker, internal SXSW date software, and other event data management tools.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Advance and execute production for an assigned stage (Sales, Music, EDU, or Comedy) during the festival
• Collaborate with Production Managers to organize and review production materials from Music Festival artists.
• Support each member of the Production Team on diverse and robust tasks across the SXSW Conference and Festivals.
Qualifications & Skills
To be eligible for a SXSW Internship, you must be enrolled in an accredited university or college in Texas for the entire duration of the internship and be a resident of Texas.
• Have, or have an interest in acquiring, knowledge of basic production technology.
• Passion and skill in organizing digital assets, like paperwork or spreadsheets
• A calm attitude
• Be highly organized and solution-driven.
• Have excellent communication & customer service skills.
• Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a constantly changing environment.
• An aptitude for quick thinking and problem-solving.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
• Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, as needed.
• Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
• May require occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, or climbing stairs.
• Ability to work in an outdoor environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.

Work Location, Schedule & Pay
This position is located in Austin, Texas. Time commitment is a maximum of 16 hours per week. A 40-hour work schedule may be required during the event. Core business office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 am – 6 pm CT. This position requires living and working in Austin, Texas. This is a paid internship at $12.00/hr.
