Job Purpose
The EDU Programmer works closely with the programming team to plan, produce, and execute a robust and compelling program for the SXSW EDU Conference & Festival. This position oversees programming efforts including the mentor program, conference sessions, and other elements for a large-scale live event, while building community by working with the SXSW EDU Advisory Board and organizational partners.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
• Managing and implementing the mentor program including review, selection, curation of participants and onsite execution.
• Overseeing meet-up program including review, selection, and outreach to organizers.
• Creating and managing new and established programmatic networking opportunities for attendees.
• Managing SXSW EDU Advisory Board to foster relationships with key stakeholders and program advocates.
• Coordinating with trade partners to advance and fulfill their programming engagements.
• Managing internal advancement process for content and asset intake, scheduling, database management, accreditation, and logistics for all programming.
• Participating in the review and selection process for applications such as PanelPicker, competitions, and the film program.
• Curating speakers, mentors, judges, emcees, and other programming participants as needed.
• Providing exceptional customer service to organizers, speakers, and participants through various communication channels.
• Supporting programming onsite across all venues.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
• 4 years experience in event programming and/or project management
• Interest/experience in the field of education and community building
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Proven self-starter with strong prioritization and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and customer service experience
• Strong attention to detail, copy-editing experience
• Ability to work within a team dynamic and communicate in a respectful manner.
• Proficient in Google products, database management, Microsoft software, and other technologies
• College degree or equivalent work experience
Physical Requirements
This position potentially requires being in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time. During an in-person event, position requires extended periods of standing and/or walking (or other means to achieve requirements), along with moving items up to 10 pounds around to different locations with or without accommodation. This position requires you to stay upwards of 7-10 consecutive days away from home.
Work Location & Schedule
Position is located in Austin, Texas. Core business office hours are Mon-Fri, 10am 6pm CT. Must be available to work additional hours from January March to include evenings and weekends. Up to two weeks of travel per year may be required.
