Technical Specialist II
The Technical Specialist II manages and supervises the inspection, evaluation, creation and restoration and preservation of film, video and audio elements to protect and create assets for library and market-driven Theatrical and Television markets. The role works directly with laboratories and post facilities to oversee and approve all work to ensure the highest quality materials are created and delivered to meet client obligations and internal performance standards. This position will on occasion work directly with filmmakers on their own films, especially directors and cinematographers.
Responsibilities:
• Supervises the creation, quality control and digital mastering in UHD and HDR of feature films, MFT films or TV series episodes with designated laboratories/post facilities for market-driven and library titles, including research and selection of source materials thru to delivery and final approval and archiving of all picture and audio elements for restoration and asset protection.
• Liaises with Sales, Materials Research and Planning, Home Entertainment, Theatrical Distribution and Client Servicing regarding client sales and client rejections to ensure that titles are evaluated and necessary restoration work is initiated. Supervises the work onsite at external vendors and manages budget and processes as appropriate for specified work.
• Insures newly manufactured elements for library titles are received at appropriate SPE facilities and properly documented into database system. Also, liaisons with Theatrical Post-Production to ensure receipt and input of elements on new feature film releases. Communicates and coordinates with Digital Archive on Specifications and archival data deliveries. Produces and manages documentation of work.
• Initiates, and follows-up on research to ensure all film and audio elements are properly identified and moved to laboratories or facilities for evaluation and manufacturing, new elements are properly acquired, mislabeled elements are corrected in inventory and obsolete elements purged from inventory.
• Reviews and consults with quality control operators to ensure proper documentation and address any issues flagged. Confirmation of all quality control completion as necessary, communication with external vendors and QC operators.
• Prepares and maintains status reports as necessary for work-in-progress or completed projects, issues Purchase Orders as necessary to vendors and follows up on completion of work.
• Assists in the control and completion of asset management projects involving research, evaluation, manufacturing and workflow.
• Recommend procedures to provide better control and more cost-effective ways of resolving client rejections.
Requirements:
• - Minimum of 5~7 years of experience working within the film and video industry with responsibility for technical management of film and audio, quality control procedures and video manufacturing and digital mastering.
• Bachelors degree in film/video/archiving highly desirable; masters degree preferred
• Thorough knowledge of film, videotape and audio formats and elements, and experience with laboratory and post-production procedures, quality control standards and issuing purchase orders.
• Technical knowledge of current digital mastering workflows and ability to work with high level talent (directors, cinematographers) is essential.
• Excellent organizational skills, with ability to schedule projects and see them through to completion under pressure.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, including computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, all standard programs, including experience with a variety of inventory databases.
• Experience working in a film or video laboratory and evaluating elements, scheduling and supervising projects, formulating recommendations is desirable.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $100,000 to $125,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
