Columbia Pictures Development Intern - Motion Picture Group Summer 2018
Overview:
Columbia Pictures is searching for hard-working and driven candidates for a development internship. Over the course the internship, the intern will learn about the Columbia brand and the filmmaking process (i.e. creative development, marketing, etc.). Interns will assist departmental assistants with reading submitted scripts, and making writers & directors' lists. Interest in feature film development and prior desk experience is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Reading and providing synopses and notes on incoming submissions.
• Administrative tasks (answering phones, scheduling, general desk coverage) as needed.
• Assisting with director, writer, and actor availability checks for upcoming Columbia projects.
• Researching and compiling lists of potential actors, directors and writers for upcoming films.
• Additional support with project-related research for films in creative development.
The intern will gain experience/exposure to the following:
• Insight into Columbia's brand building.
• Learn who the major players (i.e. screenwriters, agents, directors, and studio executives) are in the film industry and their roles in the filmmaking process.
• Learn how to analyze scripts and provide notes from a studio perspective.
• Learn how a studio provides entertainment to our domestic and international markets.
Qualifications:
Requirements for the role (technical skills, educational requirement, interest or coursework)
• Enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship is required.
• Passion and focus on film.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in basic Photoshop is helpful, but not required for compiling creative materials for project research.
• Web/tech savvy in order to keep an eye out for trending topics, creative ideas on social media.
• Good eye for creative materials and topics in the zeitgeist, which will aid executives in brainstorming for projects.

The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allow you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities while on the lot.
This Summer internship is from Wednesday, May 30th or Tuesday, June 5th through August 31st but is flexible based on school schedule. All candidates must be able to work 40 hours a week and be returning back to school in the Fall.
