Motion Picture Literary Development Trainee - Summer/Fall 2019
The Sony Pictures Entertainment Professional Trainee program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allow you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities. This Spring Professional Trainee position is from June through mid-December. All candidates must be able to work 40 hours a week.
The position requires an individual with superb reading and writing skills, strong organizational skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, as well as take direction well.
Responsibilities
Include:
• Provide support for VP, Literary Development and Creative Executive in New York City.
• Critical reading of books and comics under consideration for film and television adaptation.
• Create and maintain various tracking databases and documents for worldwide book sales, books acquired by other film and television studios, SPE's book slate, New York-based talent and more.
• Various research projects, including topic-specific deep dives and matching material to specific writers and directors.
• Assist with general office administration, including handling phones, scheduling, expenses and travel.
Trainee Learning Opportunities/Experiences:
• Exposure to the strategic process behind optioning books and comics and working alongside feature and television development executives in Los Angeles.
Desired Skills
and Qualifications:
• Strong critical reading and writing skills
• Some knowledge of and fluency with the entertainment industry and/or publishing industry
• Strong MS-Office (Outlook, Power Point, Word, and especially Excel)
• Project and timetable management knowledge
• Must be detail oriented and organized
• Must be resourceful
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
• Enthusiasm for the industry and the business coupled with a ''can-do'' attitude
• Enjoy working in a team
