Stat & Tax Subject Matter Expert (Germany, Swiss and Austria territories)
SPE Finance and Accounting continues to define its roadmap to transform the organization from a Line of Business and territory orientation to one which is global, enterprise-based, focusing on process improvement, standardization, reducing complexity and the use of technology. The global team's objectives are to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall team while enhancing the value and accessibility of the data created by the accounting processes which will enable the commercial teams to drive toward greater revenue growth and margin improvements.
The role will involve being part of Project Makeover and to help transform Statutory & Tax department for German, Austrian and Swiss territories into a viable and sustainable working function.
Project timeline: October 1, 2023, through March 31, 2026
Core activities: VAT Compliance; CIT; WHT; External Reporting to government institutions: National Statistics, ESG; Internal Reporting: Supplemental Tax Pack, JTH, Transfer Pricing.
General and Project Makeover
• Perform recurring compliance activities such as VAT, CIT, WTH, External Reporting and Internal reporting and ensure they remain up to date and compliant.
• Provide subject matter expertise to projects and specialized tasks.
• Be part of/manage internal GSA (Germany, Swiss and Austria) projects & initiatives (German Czech Registration Correctives Returns 22-23 & Deregistration, Removal of Deloitte from the VAT return preparation process and bring in-house, utilizing the Stat & Tax Center of Excellence to support the preparation) and be part of external projects such as: Indirect tax digitization required by the German tax authority (E- invoicing).
• Manage and resolve ad-hoc financial and tax queries.
• Support development of a roadmap to rationalize current compliance activities landscape.
• Help to identify and implement opportunities to eliminate low value work and standardize processes which will reduce complexity and enable greater benefits to be derived from technology.
• Manage relationship with 3rd parties including Deloitte, PwC and Thomson Reuters.
Global Stat & Tax GFO responsibilities
• Help to develop and implement the team's vision and values, aligned to Sony Pictures Entertainment objectives and goals
• Create an environment which embraces change and thrives in dynamic situations which can often have both unclear and uncertain outcomes.
• Liaise between the Home Office, other regional Hubs, 3rd parties (including but not limited to Deloitte & PwC), and Capgemini to ensure that Sony Pictures Entertainment achieving the highest overall results achievable.
Education
, Years of Experience, Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:
Knowledge & Experience
• Experience of working in a shared services environment, across a Global business within a multi-cultural corporate working environment
• Appreciation of local regulatory requirements knowledge (GAAP, IFRS, statutory accounting)
• Appreciation of basic taxes (VAT, CIT, WHT) knowledge but not a key requirement
• Excellent relationship management skills – ability to work closely with a variety of constituencies including Finance and Accounting executive and technical stakeholders including IT, Legal, Tax and 3rd party professional service firms/outsource providers
• Ability to understand and effectively deal with cultural differences
Ability to:
• Operate in an international dynamic, uncertain environment
• Operate to external and internal deadlines
• Have good organizational skills, mindful to see both details and end-to-end process
• Be flexible with duties, scope and hours of work and business travel requirements
