Global and Drama Scripted Development & Programming Intern, SPT – Spring 2020
The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal, paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allow you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities while on the lot. This Spring Internship is from January through end of May and all candidates must be able to work between 15-29 hours a week (flexible based on school schedule).
Both Global and Drama Development are responsible for taking an idea/pitch and having it ordered to an on-air series. We review submitted materials, hear pitches, acquire rights, and sell projects both domestically and globally. Should a project be ordered to pilot, we assist creatively in the casting, production and post-production process until the pilot is ordered to series. Should a project be ordered to series, we staff the shows with writers and producers we have tracked or have overall deals with. Both the global and drama departments are constantly looking for new writers, directors, and producers to be in business with. We also work with Sony owned or supported companies in the UK, Sweden, and Australia, which allows us to develop projects domestically as well as all over the world.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Rolling calls – this is very specific way to do this for the creative community
• Tracking, reading and doing coverage on incoming material
• Desk/phone coverage
• Seeking out new writers/directors/IP for the department to pursue
• Scheduling meetings with key leaders and producers in entertainment
• Updating grids & reading submissions
• In addition to this, interns will get exposure to critical meetings – weekly reads & development meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Passion for TV, focus on development for scripted programming on a domestic and global scale
• Previous experience at an agency or production company preferred
• Interest in entertainment industry as a whole both domestically and internationally
• Good eye for creative story telling
• Ability to multitask, Organized and detail-oriented
• Proficient in MS office
• Positive and eager attitude
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate student studying in relevant field
