Business Intelligence Data Science Intern, Motion Pictures Finance & Business Affairs - Spring 2020
The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal, paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allow you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities while on the lot. This Spring Internship is from January through end of May and all candidates must be able to work between 15-29 hours a week (flexible based on school schedule).
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Production Application Systems (PAS) team is responsible for supporting IT applications and initiatives in the production process from Creative through Post Production for Motion Pictures and Television. Included in that is the Data Science project that allows us to gain more value from existing data set and build a better data architecture to support efficient BI reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The intern will act as a Data Science intern to support the ongoing initiative to:
• Establish new BI infrastructure and data lake architecture for our key business stakeholders: TV Production Finance, MP Production Finance, MP Business Affairs, MP Finance, MP Legal Affairs
• Understand and integrate separate data sources to improve the BI reporting efficiency
• Analyze production financial data from all sources and give insights to guide on better decision making
• Perform data extract in SQL and normalize the data for analysis and visualizations
• Create visually pleasing and effective dashboards within BI tools to present analysis to the Business users
• Ability to create, translate, and convey data science clearly to various non-technical users
The intern will:
• Understand the IT infrastructure and data architecture built beyond the operation of a Hollywood studio
• Gain experience learning and using R/Python, PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx, for elegant data preparation
• Gain greater knowledge of data manipulation within BI tools to create interactive dashboards
• Develop, maintain, and manage advanced reporting, analytics, dashboards and other BI solutions
• Learn server gateway configuration in dashboard promoting processes
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Exceptional communication and relationship building skills with an ability to present analysis and work with a variety of business stakeholders
• Excellent proficiency in PowerBI, Tableau, and/or other popular BI tools
• Proficient in SQL and R/Python
• Experience with Database Management, Statistical Data Analysis, and SQL database
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent proficiency in PowerBI & Excellent Communication skills. This intern will work directly with the business.
• Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics/Informatics, Business Analytics, or a related discipline
