Sony Pictures Entertainment is a leading creator and distributor of entertainment products, services, and technology. Our global operations encompass television and motion picture production and distribution in over 67 countries, network operations around the globe, home video acquisitions, industry leading studio facilities, and the development of new entertainment technologies.
SPE's Finance Compliance Department is within the Technical Accounting, Compliance, and Agility Group. As Trusted Advisors, the Team is accountable for proactively consulting and advising business units on accounting issues and policies, internal controls, and corporate governance. In addition, the group serves as a liaison to the external auditors, Tax, and Internal Audit in preparation and retention of Financial Statement Information and disclosures in coordination with Sony Corporation of America (SCA) and the business units within SPE.
The Finance Compliance Team is seeking a Senior Manager of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) who is a versatile team-first contributor that can help drive critical activities across this new global regulatory and financial reporting initiative. The ideal candidate is an independent, analytical, people-oriented, problem-solver who thrives when tackling ambiguous problems.
The ESG Senior Manager will drive the governance, execution, and reporting of SPE's ESG strategy by working with internal stakeholders to gather, analyze, and report on various ESG metrics and targets while raising employee awareness toward Sony's ''Road to Zero''. This position will work collaboratively with the Sustainability team, People & Organization, Legal, Global Financial Operations, Divisional Finance, and other stakeholders to develop and oversee strong processes and controls over the regulatory aspects and financial measurement of ESG initiatives. An integral component of the role is to develop a framework to assess the effectiveness of ESG controls and create measurement and reporting tools to obtain accurate and valid data to report on the impacts and financial expenditures of ESG-related activities across SPE's operations.
The position will initially report directly to the EVP of Finance Transformation & Enablement and focus on climate reporting and disclosure. The role will include overseeing a project team made up of representatives from various stakeholder groups with support as necessary from project management resources, including Information Technology, and others within Finance Transformation. The ultimate goal is to create an efficient and accurate reporting process embedded into SPE's ongoing operations.
Responsibilities
• Develop and execute a multi-pronged ESG strategy to implement controls, capture data, and manage regulatory and financial reporting across SPE
• Work across all of SPE's business units to inform and educate, ensuring that key stakeholders understand the role that they and their teams play in ESG
• Use an Agile approach to establish objectives and milestones to achieve short and long-term goals of embedding the ESG strategy within the functional areas
• Create guidelines, checklists, policies, procedures, and other related program content to align with best practices and frameworks, and enable stakeholders to carry out and enhance ESG programs
• Work with stakeholders to design and implement controls across all of SPE's business units
• Develop a well-controlled process for ESG reporting that aligns with Sony Group's reporting requirements for regulatory required filings and voluntary disclosures
• Chair and organize the agendas for ESG Committee meetings
• Assist in developing appropriate external communications regarding the company's ESG strategy and progress
• Act as a thought leader in ESG, understanding current and future challenges within the industry and educating and prioritizing these issues with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Remain up to date on ESG trends and developments and translate them into actionable improvements and reporting in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Work collaboratively across multiple functional areas and stakeholders to drive program awareness and communicate program results
• Create and drive engagement opportunities that serve employees, communities, and stakeholders while aligning with the SPE's mission and vision.
• Create dashboards and reporting to track performance for various audiences (employees, Executives & Sony Group Corp level)
• Engage with the broader ESG accounting and disclosure community to build partnerships and share best practices
• Manage external resources to provide subject-matter expertise, where necessary
• Assist in drafting narrative content for sustainability reports, trends reports, and other communications
Competencies
• Ability to influence and catalyze change to enhance ESG reporting and prepare for future audit requirements through the application of exceptional interpersonal, relationship building and collaboration skills
• Strong analytical expertise with the ability to build out metrics and synthesize data
• Deep understanding of audit and internal control practices that support data collection, validation, and process integrity
• Creative and pragmatic thinking about improving ESG practices and reporting
• Practical and innovative with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
• Strong presentation skills
Qualifications
• Experience building efficient processes and controls, and working with auditors
• Experience of ESG strategy development and implementation (preferred but not required)
• Relevant educational qualifications, including a Bachelor's or Master's degree in either finance, economics, engineering, environmental science or sustainability
• At least 7 years of professional experience
