Job Title: Research Coordinator, Script Clearance
Location: Onsite, Culver City, CA
Position Summary:
The Research Coordinator supports the Script Clearance Department, which handles legal clearance issues for film, television, and virtual reality productions. The coordinator will conduct research to ensure character names, addresses, businesses, and other proprietary elements are cleared for use, and will fact-check true stories and docudramas for legal accuracy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Research proposed character names by occupation, location, and other traits
• Search online databases to review business names, trademarks, slogans, and proprietary items
• Ensure no real-world conflicts exist for addresses, internet sites, or other script elements
• Discuss research findings with the Research Manager to determine which items can be used
• Conduct research on rights holders’ contact information
• Fact-check information for various projects, especially those based on real people or companies
• Use Westlaw and news databases to substantiate facts for true-story projects
• Review research results with the Research Manager to ensure completeness and accuracy
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• 1-2 years of relevant research experience
• College graduate or equivalent preferred
• Strong research and computer skills, with a deep interest in complex research topics
• Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize time-sensitive tasks
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and understanding of confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
• Interest in clearance work, motion picture, or TV production
Salary Range:
• $50,000 - $65,000 annually
