Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has an opening for a Director position on its TV Distribution Business Affairs team. This position is operationally integrated within the SPT business unit and is responsible for providing business affairs and legal support for the organization's North America television distribution business and U.S. syndication and ad sales businesses. The position will be based in the SPT offices in Los Angeles.
Key Responsibilities:
• Partner with the sales teams in TV distribution, syndication, and ad sales to advise on deal structuring and provide practical counseling to maximize deal terms while effectively managing legal risk.
• Handle drafting and negotiating of long form agreements, term sheets, offer letters, and correspondences.
• Analyze, interpret, manage, and advise on contractual commitments and MFN terms across deals and lines of business.
• Conduct research and analyses of rights availability and clearance status for studio's library of feature films and television series, and effectively summarize and disseminate information to various stakeholders across the company.
• Other matters and related duties at the direction of the Senior Vice President, Distribution Business Affairs.
Requirements:
• Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from a top-ranked accredited law school.
• Active membership to the California State Bar in good standing
• Minimum 5 years of relevant transactional legal experience in-house at a studio, major media company, network, or streaming service, and/or at a nationally recognized top tier law firm.
• Exceptional drafting, negotiating, and analytical skills.
• Ability to function both independently and in a team-oriented environment to provide top-quality deal support and produce superior work product.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to recognize, prioritize, and respond quickly to multiple time-sensitive situations.
• Effective communicator (verbal and written) with an ability to interact professionally and comfortably with internal and external constituents of all levels.
• Great attention to detail, strong business sense, and ability to exercise sound judgement.
• Self-directed, diplomatic, confidence-inspiring and problem-solving personality.
