Director, Finance & Reporting
The Director of Finance & Reporting is responsible for the finance and reporting functions related to the TV Production Accounting department of Sony Pictures Television Productions. This position is responsible for all financial functions related to production inclusive of financial statements of production entities for financial/tax reporting, tax incentives, forecasting/cash flows, ad hoc reporting and general accounting. The Director of Finance & Reporting will work directly with Post Production, Production Executives, Producers, Production Managers, Coordinators, as well as with vendors, clients, Finance Management and Business Affairs. The director will be responsible for the reporting for all US, Canadian and international tax incentive filings and be the main contact with respective tax authorities ensuring finalization of tax credit certificates and collection of tax incentives inclusive of negotiating with brokers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
o Responsible for all aspects of Production Finance inclusive of financial statements for production entities for consolidation of tax reporting.
o Knowledge of tax incentives in US and internationally and the respective agencies for audit and collection of tax incentives inclusive of monthly reporting of tax credit receivables
o Responsible for P&L and off Balance Sheet report for non-consolidating entities
o Responsible for weekly/monthly Estimated Final Cost (EFC) forecasting, cash flow forecasting, variance analysis, and reporting
o Responsible for monitoring balances of production funded bank accounts and coordinating information to Treasury and banking team inclusive of monthly bank reconciliation review/approval.
o Basic Knowledge of foreign currency and related production funding
o Basic Knowledge of value added tax and filings with respective foreign agencies
o Responsible for SOX reporting and compliances; interface with internal/external auditors and ensure compliance with SPT policies, procedures
o Liaison between the production teams, production accounting and TV Finance management, Labor and Risk Management
o Responsible for statutory reporting: 1099s, 1042s
o Liaison with outside CPA firms and Film Commissioners and governmental agencies as they relate to the filing of tax incentives/tax credits/rebates inclusive of providing information/documentation for the respective filing for both US and International production;
o Hire and assist with 3rd party auditors as they related to production costs and tax incentive audits
o Manage a team of 1 in-house plus freelance accountants as needed
o Oversee cash flow consolidation financial reporting; responsibilities include monthly cash analysis & forecasts, cash reconciliation to budget; mid-range planning and monthly accrued production cost analysis
o Work with Labor and guild auditors on tri-guild and union audits for timely completion of audits
o Ad Hoc reporting to support Studio related to labor relations/tax/government affairs
Required Skills
• Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects
• Experience working in an entertainment company or for entertainment clients, preferably TV production
• Strong accounting / audit knowledge –
• Basic Knowledge of Guild and Union Payroll – SAG/AFTRA/DGA/WGA/IA
• Proactive leader who has strong follow-through on all projects; ability to bring projects to timely completion
• Ability to perform tasks with independence
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts
• Ability to problem-solve
• Detail-oriented; strong organizational, analytical skills
• Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Advanced MS Excel/Access knowledge a plus
• Working Knowledge and prior experience with SAP/Vista is desired
• Working knowledge of production and TV production is desired
Required Experience
• Four year accounting/finance degree required
• Knowledge of international tax incentives is desired
• CPA preferred
• Entertainment Industry understanding and experience required
• Basic Knowledge of guild and unions and TV industry practice is desired
• 5-10 years of experience desired
