Director, Advanced Technology
The Director, Advanced Technology report to the CTO and EVP of Technology in the Sony Pictures Technology Development group. The Director, Advanced Technology will engage at an engineering level in a range of technology projects with Sony Japan, Sony R&D and 3rd party companies. Projects may encompass AI, Audio technology, Video technology, transducers, and software that operates on local equipment or virtual instances.
Responsibilities:
• Requires the ability to explain technical projects and documentation to management which will guide resource investments in hardware, software, and workflows
• Develop best practices for advancing workflows for production and post-production
• Generate ''white paper'' level documents on technology related inventions and methodologies
• Work with solutions vendors to explore and if needed, deploy new technologies at Sony Pictures with business unite
• Work with departments within Sony Pictures and Sony Corp, as well as 3rd party vendors to continually improve production and distribution workflows
• Setup and present technology demonstrations
• Participate in standard bodies and consortiums to represent SPE interest
• Work with Sony Japan on a range of technology initiatives which require ongoing direct communication
• Work with 3rd party companies to evaluate technology solutions brought to the studio for evaluation
• Participate in industry standards and consortium meetings
• Set up, conduct, and demonstrate technologies to SPE members
• Write documents/emails in industry accepted format for peer review and presentation/collaboration
• Travel to and attend trade events, represent SPE's technical interests and report in newly announced products
• Travel to Sony Tokyo for technology specific project meetings
Requirements:
• 7-10 years of related experience
• Expected to have authoritative experience and recognition in the industry for past contributions in the field of image and color science
• Fiscal responsibility: $1M revenue and/or budget
• Bachelor's degree in related field
Knowledge of:
• Feature and television production workflows
• Video display, audio systems, and supporting technologies
• Post-production systems and best practices
Skills:
• Linux, Mac, and Windows computer systems
• Shared storage systems in a high-performance computing environment
• Audio and video routing systems
• Troubleshooting software systems
• Using test equipment to perform tasks
Ability To:
• Speak Japanese and English fluently
• Work independently and with people to solve technical problems
• Read and interpret technical manuals, documents, and theoretical papers
• Communicate and present to an audience effectively
• Lift 50 pounds
