An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in the TV Music Creative department at Sony Pictures Entertainment as Coordinator, TV Music Creative.
The position entails working with the Television Division, the SPE Music Affairs Group, television productions, music labels, music publishers, agents, managers, music artists, composers and music supervisors to support the music needs of Sony Pictures' television productions.
As coordinator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Senior Vice President, TV Music – handling the calendar, answering phones, responsible for an accurate and timely T&E. For assigned television projects, you will be responsible for accurate delivery of original music and coordinate those activities with the cue sheet team. You will also review credits and confirm their accuracy. You will also be responsible for accurately updating internal charts and status reports dealing with budgets, personnel, and similar essential information.
Research will also be an important function of the position – such as getting correct song and artist information, checking on worldwide public domain status of songs, acquisition of correct sheet music for productions, manager and/or agent contact information will be among your responsibilities.
The Television Music Department is a fast paced and service oriented, so organization and the ability to properly prioritize are important for this position. You will need to review scripts, dailies and the different cuts of programs. You will need to help with music breakdowns of scripts, identify potential issues and inform the SVP, TV Music.
Knowledge of trends in music (both popular and within the visual media space) are important, as is knowing music supervisors and composers. You will assist the SVP, TV Music in identifying and presenting composers and music supervisors on projects. For projects that are music supervised in-house, you will work with the SVP Music Creative on identifying music that is appropriate for individual productions and making sure they are also cost effective options to be presented to those productions.
Ability to think creatively to find opportunities for new talent, departmental efficiencies, cost savings or revenue generating ideas and/or contribute as part of the Music Creative team are all desirable assets.
Core Responsibilities
1. REPORT TO SVP TELEVISION MUSIC, HANDLE SVP'S DAY-TO-DAY FUNCTIONS; LIAISE WITH PRODUCTIONS, CONFIRM ACCURACY OF MUSIC CREDITS AND MUSIC ASSETS ON CURRENT SPT PRODUCTIONS.
2. REVIEW SCRIPTS, DAILIES, CUTS TO ADDRESS ANY MUSIC ISSUES
3. MUSIC SEARCHES & CONDUCTING RESEARCH FOR PRODUCTIONS
4. ATTEND MEETINGS, SPOTTING & MIX SESSIONS
Education
, Years of Experience, Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:
• BA/BS/MS in film, tv, music, business, communications, etc.
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience at a film, television or music-related company.
• Knowledge of current trends in television music (composers, supervisors, artists) knowing music licensing a plus
• Passion for television music, visual media, music supervision.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize; works well under pressure and tight deadlines and has a customer-oriented approach
• Proactive team player and motived solution oriented self-starter.
• Organizational skills and thorough due diligence.
• Established relationships in the field
• Ability to professionally and personably communicate in all manners internally and with clients both written and verbal.
• Proven ability to create presentations and schedule events
• Savvy with technology and asset requests/delivery
• Assist SVP with song searches for projects the TV Music Creative team music supervises in-house
• Assist the SVP with pairing composers and/or supervisors on television productions
• Assist the Music Creative Department with status reports detailing personnel, budgeting and deadlines
• Assist SVP in identifying new talent (artists, composers, supervisors) for television productions
• Review dailies and cuts as needed to ensure music accuracy and identify any potential issues
• Work with SVP to coordinate music requests that are brought forth by production or internally
• Work with SVP in obtaining music for soundtracks, quality check the music, make sure it is in the correct format and and coordinating activities with studio teams, composers, agents, and productions to meet deadlines for those releases
• Handling day-to-day activities: departmental phones; coordinating the SVP's schedule; timely and accurate T&E for the SVP TV Music.
