Coordinator, Tech Services & Post Production - Sony Pictures Classics
The Coordinator, Technical Services & Post Production serves as the gateway to the entire distribution process. The Coordinator will be responsible for working with the VP of Post Production along with the EVP, Acquisitions & Production to negotiate the delivery schedule, which determines exactly what materials Sony Pictures Classics will receive from a licensor.
The Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the delivery of these elements and for distributing them to the appropriate department (i.e. stills/press material to Advertising/Publicity, legal documents to
Business Affairs, feature/trailer materials to Technical Services, etc.).
To ensure long-term access to the printing, sound, and video elements, the Coordinator circulates the Lab Access Letters to licensors and labs.
Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for distributing the necessary distribution materials to ancillary markets – including airline and television markets – as well as SPC's sub-licensors in Canada. This includes negotiating access fees for any creative materials that SPC has created and have been requested for use in another company's territory and vice versa.
The Coordinator ensures that each film is rated by the Motion Picture Association and that the title is legally clear for use. The Coordinator proofreads all subtitles and makes sure that the English subtitles of SPC films has been ''Americanized'' and are error-free.
The position of Coordinator, Technical Services and Post-Production requires someone who is extremely well-organized and can multi-task without losing sight of minute details. The Coordinator often acts as a liaison between the licensor and the rest of Sony Pictures Classics; therefore, this position requires someone who is a problem-solver, can think quickly and clearly under stressful circumstances, and can communicate to a range of licensors, vendors, and colleagues from various backgrounds and nationalities, many of whom speak English as a second language.
The knowledge gained in this position is unique and must be learned on the job. A production and/or post production background is helpful for gaining a base knowledge of digital, audio, and video materials. The position involves in-depth knowledge of these materials. This position is complicated and multi-faceted, requiring someone who is a critical thinker and can quickly devise creative ideas to solve problems.
