Sony Music
New York, NYThis is a Full Time Job
We are looking for a strategic, commercially minded Senior Director of Finance & Accounting who understands the broader label business and can support decisions around artists, joint ventures, acquisitions, catalog, cash flow, and profitability with insightful analysis. The ideal candidate will bring deep accounting expertise, strong operational discipline, and exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills.
In the near term, this person, in coordination with SME central teams, will provide hands-on leadership to strengthen accounting practices, including intercompany accounting, financial operations, and metadata management, to ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting. The Senior Director of Finance & Accounting will also be responsible for the monthly close and forecast, as well as the annual budgeting process. As part of a small, flat team supported by the wider Sony Music Finance, Accounting, and IT infrastructure, this person will touch virtually every aspect of label finance and accounting. The role requires someone who can navigate a complex organizational structure and bring the technical accounting expertise the group needs. This will require taking ownership of detailed project management and process design and execution. Through this work, the Senior Director of Finance will build the experience and perspective needed to grow into a future CFO-level leader for the organization.
What you'll do:
• Lead accounting setup, cleanup, and ongoing financial control processes across Alamo, Santa Anna, Foundation, OVO, and related ventures, with particular focus on entity structure, intercompany accounting, eliminations, reconciliations, and balance sheet integrity.
• Strengthen accounting controls, workflows, and ownership across recurring close, reporting, intercompany, and operational finance processes.
• Oversee monthly close, management reporting, variance analysis, balance sheet reviews, and corporate deliverables, ensuring results are accurate, timely, and clearly explained to senior management and SME stakeholders.
• Manage annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and long-range planning across labels, joint ventures, acquisitions, and new business initiatives, connecting financial plans to operating priorities, deal terms, and profitability targets.
• Partner with SME central teams, including Accounting, Global Finance, Tax, Royalties, JV Accounting, Metadata, and technology partners, to improve financial operations, data quality, metadata workflows, systems integration, and reporting consistency across a complex organizational structure.
• Support deal analysis, artist and label investment decisions, catalog and acquisition opportunities, royalty and recoupment analysis, and new venture business plans, ensuring financial assumptions align with contractual terms and operational realities.
• Act as a senior finance business partner to label leadership and department team members across business units to help drive revenue growth, profitability, cash discipline, and operating efficiency across the business.
• Serve as a reliable #2 to the CFO, leading detailed project management, integration efforts, process improvement initiatives, and other high-priority finance projects as a hands-on operator and strategic finance leader.
Who you are:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, ideally within music, media, entertainment, or another complex multi-entity environment.
• CPA strongly preferred; MBA a plus.
• Passionate about music, media, and entertainment.
• Deep technical accounting foundation, including a strong understanding of month-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, eliminations, and intercompany accounting across multiple legal entities.
• Strong financial planning, forecasting, modeling, and analysis skills, with the ability to translate detailed financial data and analysis into clear recommendations for senior leaders.
• Sophisticated Excel skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret large data sets.
• Analytical mindset with a natural desire to ask "why," coupled with the initiative to reimagine and reinvent processes and improve the accuracy of reporting and analysis.
• Experience working with corporate accounting, tax, royalties, metadata, systems, and shared service teams to resolve cross-functional issues and improve end-to-end financial operations.
• Hands-on leader with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex projects at a granular level.
