We are seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and music-passionate Senior Analyst to join our centralized finance team servicing the Sony Music US Front Line Label Group (encompassing Columbia Records, RCA Records, Epic Records, Arista Records, Sony Music Nashville, Provident Entertainment, and Ultra Records). Reporting directly to an Associated Director of Marketing Financial Planning, this position plays a key role in supporting the planning, tracking, and analysis of marketing expenditures across a wide range of artist campaigns for assigned labels, working at the intersection of finance, marketing, and media. The ideal candidate will combine attention to detail with strong analytical skills, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
What you'll do:
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Contribute to the development and management of artist marketing budgets aligned with go-to-market release strategy and commercial objectives; Maintain and update marketing budgets in the company’s proprietary marketing planning system, ensuring data accuracy and real-time responsiveness to campaign changes; Support the monthly forecast cycle for your assigned labels, incorporating new marketing spend assumptions and campaign updates.
• Purchase Order Administration: Coordinate with label staff for the creation and submission of marketing-related purchase orders, ensuring alignment with approved artist campaign budgets and internal controls; Liaise with Accounts Payable and label teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely vendor payments.
• Expense Reconciliation & Analysis: Perform account reconciliations and analysis of actual marketing expenditures on a monthly and quarterly basis; Process accruals and prepare journal entries as necessary. Identify key drivers of monthly variances to overall label marketing budget / forecast and communicate to supervisor; Validate accuracy of marketing recoupment calculations and posting to artist royalty statements and general ledger; Track status of third-party brand sponsorship and marketing cost subsidies, related invoicing and cash collection.
• Financial Reporting & Spend Visibility: Maintain and update marketing expenditure dashboards to provide label stakeholders with real-time visibility to actual spend and available remaining budget by artist, project, and campaign phase; Facilitate the tracking of artist contractual marketing commitments at multiple levels: by artist, project, spend category, and release phase.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise with marketing, media, and promotion teams across multiple active artist campaigns for your assigned labels; Attend and contribute to marketing financial planning meetings, helping ensure financial accuracy, spend pacing, and campaign alignment.
• Compliance & Process Optimization: Support the process of ensuring all marketing expenditures follow corporate finance policies, internal approval hierarchies, and SOX requirements, with documented controls and audit trails, and assist in internal & external audits. Aid in identifying and implementing improvements to budgeting and reporting processes; Support maintenance and enhancements related to the marketing planning and purchase order systems.
• Strategic Support & Special Projects: Support campaign post-mortem analyses, vendor benchmarking, and label-wide marketing expense analysis.
Who you are:
• You have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (CPA a plus) and 2–3 years of experience in accounting, financial planning & analysis or corporate finance, preferably in the music, entertainment, or media industry; Strong understanding of revenue recognition and cost structures within the recorded music business preferred.
• You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (particularly Excel) and financial modeling, and eager to quickly learn proprietary company software and other applications; Data visualization software experience (Tableau/Power BI) a plus.
• You have experience with enterprise-level ERP systems (SAP) and related reporting tools.
• You have excellent analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the company in a professional manner.
• You are well-organized and detail-oriented balanced with the ability to see the bigger picture, and able to handle multiple concurrent tasks and adapt quickly to shifting priorities to meet deadlines on a timely basis.
• You have the ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization and manage multiple stakeholders.
