The Royalty Manager is involved in all royalty aspects for the assigned artist(s). This includes the roster/high profile artists.
Responsibilities
The Royalty Manager’s responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to:
• Reading the artist, producer, and/or third party contract to obtain relevant information.
• Interpreting the contractual clauses related to the royalty obligation.
• Understanding the legal definitions of terms used within the contracts or related documents.
• Coordinating with Label’s legal and business affairs staff to obtain missing information.
• Preparing and tracking current period releases.
• Liasing with Label Departments to retrieve outstanding agreements for royalty participants.
• Tracking and verifying that each month releases are setup prior to financial month end for accrual purposes.
• Auditing contractual information within the royalty system.
• Auditing all relevant exploitations methods are identified and the appropriate royalty rate is assigned.
• Auditing escalation counters are set to properly count relevant sales.
• Auditing contract to product contract links and participation percentages for accuracy.
• Responsible to audit all sales transactions are properly processed on a timely basis.
• Monitoring sales files on a daily basis for activity related to assigned artists.
• Responsible to audit that all royalty participants are set up correctly.
• Appropriate Name, Address and Tax Information is established in order to ensure the proper payment and reporting.
• Preparing the appropriate accounting statement as required.
• Audit the sales and cost are accurately stated and the statement is issued on the required due date.
• Coordinate the statement review with the appropriate label personnel.
• Audit and approve staff’s statements as established by department guidelines.
• Researching and responding to month end accrual inquires from accounting and label finance.
• Researching all inquiries related to assigned accounts.
• Providing supervisor with status reports regarding the assigned artist accounts.
• Monitor systems issues and proposed enhancements.
• Perform special projects as assigned.
• Monitoring the status of the artist accounts assigned to staff members.
• Setting daily/weekly goals for the staffs completion of assigned work.
• Work closely with Department Senior Managers to set overall goals.
• Provide progress reports as determined by the Senior Managers on department goals.
• Identify training needs of staff members, work with Senior Managers to develop appropriate training plan.
• Provide performance feedback. Identify areas of development.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance.
• Strong proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Minimum of 5 years of royalty or related work experience
• Ability to work under time constraints while managing department goals.
• Ability to work well in a collaborative, team oriented environment.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Initiative, always striving to improve things.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact well with different levels within the organization.
