Sony Music Entertainment is seeking to hire two aspiring multicultural legal professionals for our 3-Year Business and Legal Affairs Rotation Program. This program will empower you to grow as an individual and as a valuable member of the team. You will gain genuine insight into the entertainment and corporate law experience of the music entertainment business through hands-on work and real time guidance from our lawyers. You will experience work life and culture at Sony Music Entertainment to contribute to important client work, build meaningful relationships, and access opportunities that will help shape your career.
What you'll do:
• Learn the basics of drafting and negotiating contracts and licenses such as:
• new license agreements, and amendments to existing agreements
• sync and technology agreements
• recording and termination agreements
• distribution agreements
• union agreements
• enterprise-wide transactions
• Review current and old contract terms
• Exposure to and draft NDA's
• Research claims and disputes
• Learn trademark basics such as how to conduct and analyze the trademark search; how to file and maintain registration of a trademark
• Learn about current legislative policies that could affect the music business.
• Provide legal support on label mergers, acquisitions, investments, joint venture and other strategic transactions; this includes:
• Assisting with M&A due diligence for targeted record labels
• Obtain working knowledge of intellectual property, employment, privacy, and related matters that arise in M&A
• Learn how to deliver consistent, strategic, risk-weighted, business-focused legal counsel
Who you are:
• This program is open to Spring/Winter 2021 and Spring 2022 law school graduates; a US law degree is required to be eligible
• Passion for working in the music industry
• Superior analytic, research, and writing skills
• Ability to conduct legal research as well as data-driven analyses
• Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative
• Manage a variety of tasks and see projects through to completion in a timely fashion
