Sony Music Immersive Entertainment (SMIE) is a division within SME that is dedicated to developing groundbreaking content experiences through the use of emerging software and hardware technologies, including virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
Responsibilities
SMIE is seeking an expert in game production and design to execute the development of the VR Music World. You will be responsible for executing the production roadmap, user mechanics, gamification strategies, social elements and technical art requirements to bring the VR Music World to life.
You will work closely with the Head of Content & Creative Direction to execute the aesthetic, structure and narrative of the Virtual Music World. Additionally, you will execute the content roadmap for artist & music-themed experiences, and influence the interactive features required to achieve the highest levels of authenticity for the platform.
You will inspire and lead team of art directors, visual and technical artists, producers and engineers skilled in executing and maintaining the design and technology requirements of the platform.
Responsibilities
Include:
• Overseeing a team of visual and technical artists, and working in partnership with the Head of Content and Creative Direction, execute the production elements of the Music World
• Execute production for a content roadmap including virtual concerts, immersive storytelling and artist centric immersive experiences, as created/defined by the Head of Content
• Working closely with the Head of Content, bring an unparalleled level of music authenticity to the platform, with extreme attention to detail
• Play a key role in Music World design and architecture, implementing leading user mechanics, usability, gamification, social interactions and technology requirements required for a world class platform
• Provide coaching and mentoring to the design and technical art team, including leadership, communication, prioritization, organization, and time management
• Manage the production of art assets, world design, animation, and music experience – everything that combines to bring the world to life
• Lead cross functional team of artists, designers and game engine developers, interacting directly with other team leaders
• Demonstrate technical leadership over challenging technical art problems
• Execute a production pipeline and SDK framework to enable consistent and efficient content creation that is compatible with the platform
• Cultivate an Agile development culture while actively driving discussions on process and improvements
• Adapt quickly based on changing requirements and priorities
• Identify and evaluate third-party technologies as part of systems and game design
• Work directly with Head of Platform Technology to ensure project success and alignment with future goals
Qualifications
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a highly credible and respected veteran of the gaming industry, with deep experience developing AAA quality titles, and a thorough understanding of the game development process. The candidate should also have extensive experience in Virtual Reality, and experience developing for the PlayStation platform. He/she should have experience leading teams of visual artists, technical artists and developers to execute real-time game engine driven experiences. Finally, the user should have comprehensive experience in key game development principals such as user mechanics, game design, social interactions and performance optimization.
Skills
and Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience building and managing game production teams for AAA online game and VR titles
• Expert level knowledge of 3D content authoring processes and knowledge of real-time rendering pipelines
• Ability to lead and mentor teams, and execute development requirements for 3D modeling, animation and scene development
• Experience and solid understanding of technical requirements for publishing on platforms such as PlayStation, PlayStation VR and Oculus
• Experience in key game development principals such as user mechanics, game design, social interactions and performance optimization
• Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine (UE4) capabilities, best practices and limitations
• Strong leadership skills, especially the ability to lead through influence across functional and organizational lines
• Demonstrated ability in recruiting and retaining high performing teams
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate team and project goals in a clear, concise, and strategic manner
• Extremely proactive and results oriented
• A passion for the intersection of technology and entertainment
• BS in Computer Science or Art Design, or equivalent in industry experience
• 15 years of experience in creative or game level design
• 5 years personnel management experience with a team of 10 or more
