Director of Commercial Partnerships
Sony Music
Los Angeles, CAThis is a Full Time Job
Role Summary:
This leadership position serves as the company’s senior expert and strategic owner for the entire frontline relationship with YouTube & Social Platforms in the US. Reporting directly to the VP, Frontline Commerce, this role is accountable for maximizing commercial outcomes and strategic alignment with the partners. This leader translates high-level company goals into concrete, data-driven partnership strategies, managing external relationships and driving cross-functional execution.
What you'll do:
• Strategic Partnership Management: Own the strategic relationship with the assigned DSP(s), serving as the primary commercial and strategic contact for key counterparts. You will cultivate a collaborative culture, align team goals, and foster cross-functional collaboration to advance business objectives.
• Financial Ownership & Modeling: Own the financial health of the assigned account. Partner closely with the Corporate Strategy team to build and maintain sophisticated financial reports that track revenue performance against targets.
• Influence & Strategic Presence: Build and maintain deep-seated relationships at the assigned DSP through consistent face-to-face engagement. You will act as a trusted in-person partner and networker at partner and label offices. You will leverage this extensive physical presence to secure competitive advantage, open doors for premium opportunities, and foster the impactful industry connections necessary to advance territory goals.
• Weekly Performance Reporting: Lead the development and delivery of weekly streaming reports that assess the health of the account. You will clearly communicate the impact of team initiatives week-over-week, identifying specific drivers of growth or decline.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Ensure optimal alignment across all assigned account stakeholders (ie: Partnerships, Editorial, Marketing) for revenue-driving releases. You will act as the centralized leader for execution while coaching and mentoring junior team members to ensure high-level results.
• Operational Excellence: Collaborate with Relationship Leads and label clients to integrate best practices into high-value pitches. You will implement solutions that align with business goals as a strategic problem solver, facilitating comprehensive solutions through collaboration.
Who you are:
• Professional Experience: 7-10 years of experience in music industry commerce, digital distribution, or platform relations.
• Platform Expertise: Deep, nuanced understanding of the DSP YouTube & Socials ecosystem, including their specific editorial processes, algorithm drivers, and creator tools.
• Financial Literacy: Proven experience building or maintaining streaming and financial reports. You must be able to translate raw streaming data into revenue projections and account health narratives.
• External Presence & Relationship Cultivation: Participate in on-site partner and client meetings often. A boots on the ground mindset is essential for building the deep-seated relationships required for this role.
• Commercial Data Interpretation: Advanced proficiency in DSP data; you should be able to identify the 'why' behind week-over-week consumption shifts, not just the 'what.'
• Leadership & Mentorship: Experience managing or mentoring junior staff. You should have a track record of upskilling a team to ensure operational consistency.
• Communication Style: Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to advocate for artist needs to partners and report commercial results to executive leadership (VP level).
• Strategic Problem Solving: A history of navigating complex high-value pitches and overcoming operational hurdles through cross-functional collaboration.
