Sony Music Entertainment is seeking an individual to help work on initiatives related to The Orchard and its products.
We are looking to hire a Director, Finance UK & International to join our London office.
Responsibilities
The main purpose of this role is to ensure the smooth running of the Orchard UK Finance function and provide business support to the UK based Managing Director as well as reporting support to the Head Office in New York.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, organised accountant, with a can-do attitude who is not afraid of rolling up their sleeves; will possess an eye for detail and will have solid commercial experience. Experience in managing and motivating a small team is essential. Exposure to large, complex & fast changing multi-national finance environments would be an advantage.
The main responsibilities of the Director, Finance UK & International are:
• Key business partner for UK based Managing Director
• Managing income recognition/ processing royalty files / booking a cost of sales accrual & appropriate margin
• Ensuring that all transactional processes are accurately accounted for by effectively planning the workload of the team. This includes monthly recharges to labels, monthly Looker file for royalty processing, monthly label payments and involves managing time of 2 staff members and 1 outsourced personnel.
• Oversight of processing for Orchard/Sony Music distributed sales. This includes generating, communicating, and paying the monthly sales reporting to the Orchard international subsidiaries and Sony Music international affiliates. Tracking and processing payment for affiliate expenses. Reconciling the BTL and intercompany accounts. Working closely with Orchard NY Finance.
• Provide leadership, development and day to day performance management of 2 team members.
• UK statutory accounts preparation & provision of audit schedules/ all backup required
• Assisting label managers with financial related queries from labels
• Reviewing AR sub-ledger & chasing debt – compiling with Sony policy for debt provisioning
• Designing & running reports for management on label profitability & providing ad hoc analysis to management
• Deal appraisals for new business acquisitions using Orchard templates
• Review purchase order spend vs budget
• Ensure Orchard business complies with all internal finance controls
• New label coordination – ensure new labels are created in SAP accurately, with appropriate mapping / financial controls
• Label balances review including recoupment
• Monthly BPC actuals & forecast (using Sony IP platform) annual budgeting process (P/L Headcount Balance sheet) – commentary to management
• VAT return review & ensuring all regulatory requirements adhered to
• Global Tax Office liaison, as required
• Key point of contact for Orchard NY Finance and Royalties teams
• Control balance sheet by reviewing all key recs each month
• Ensure that Orchard UK Table of Authority is adhered to / Banking controls are maintained (including new user setups)
• Enhancements to processes including refining project setups in liaison with project support team
• Manage relationship with Sony UK back office staff, proactively identifying & collaboratively working through improvements to back office function
• Backup for transactional staff member, emergency cover for monthly payment run
Qualifications
• Solid accounting & business partnering
• CIMA/ ACCA certification require
• Expertise with, but not limited to, MS Office (particularly MS Excel),SAP, and Bpack (or similar purchase order system)
• Highly organise with a positive, can do attitude
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Works well to tight deadlines
• Attention to detail and highly diligent approach to work
• Pragmatic/lateral approach to finding solutions
• Proactive with strong problem solving skills and ability to work under own initiative
