The Global Digital Business team is on the front lines, ensuring that we make the most of our relationships with major digital distribution partners, such as Apple, Spotify or Amazon, and work with the most exciting digital music startups. As the Director of Global Business Development, you will join a small group of data-savvy negotiators that focus exclusively on executing digital partnerships around the world. This is a rare opportunity to have direct influence on music industry developments and work on deals that benefit Sony’s entire artist roster.

The Director position is a senior role on the Business Development team that is expected to have a big impact. On day one, you should be able to articulate the typical deal structures in the music industry, evaluate deal performance, create detailed financial projections, and start managing negotiations with Sony Music commercial partners. Eventually you will manage licensing discussions across a broad and diverse range of accounts, and build internal consensus to execute agreements.
You will be successful in this role if you:
• Have outstanding negotiation and communication skills
• Think strategically, using data and market realities to inform your recommendations
• Build strong relationships quickly and manage expectations across many stakeholders
• Structure logical arguments, and quickly focus on the most important and persuasive points
• Like the idea of working day-to day with a team of top-class music business experts and supporting creative music leaders in the US and globally
Qualifications
• 4-year undergraduate degree
• At least one of the following:
• MBA/JD from top tier program, and 3-6 years with a digital music/media organization in a business development, legal, or commercial role
• 4-6 years’ experience in a top tier management consultancy, investment banking, or corporate / business development position, and 2-4 years with a digital music/media organization in a business development role
• A strong team-orientation required, and experience managing direct reports an added plus
• Compensation will be commensurate with experience
