Sony Music Entertainment is dedicated to developing innovative content experiences through the use of emerging software and hardware technologies. Associates will have the unique opportunity to sit on the historic Sony Pictures lot in Culver City and work hand-in-hand with entertainment executives and advisors to develop next generation content experiences based on leading Sony Music artists.
If you are interested in developing new technology-enabled content experiences and/or re-imagining narrative storytelling experiences for music, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
The associate will have the opportunity to apply technical and creative expertise and contribute to emerging content projects that support Sony Music’s various global businesses, and will be responsible for supporting projects that include:
• Advanced content experiences
• Utilization of game engine technology to reimagine the production methodology for content creation
• Developing content experience based on an individual music artist, song, playlists or catalogues
All projects and content experiences must utilize one or more emerging technologies (e.g., AR//VR/MR and/or Game Engines in the use of original storytelling).
Qualifications
We are seeking current undergraduate or graduate students (including seniors) who are skilled in engineering/programming or visual design with the following qualifications:
• A passion for the intersection of content and technology and an interest in the media and entertainment industry
• A demonstrated ability to learn and utilize a new technology quickly
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping and ability to iterate quickly over a very short period of time
• Strong initiative, maturity, and the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Proven self-starters with independent problem-solving abilities, as well as a with a curious mindset to understand implications of work
• Background in interactive media, game design, cinematic arts, film/TV production and computer science preferred
Students interested in engineering are expected to have the following experience and skills:
• Proficient in one or more object-orientated programming languages (Java, C, C#, C , etc.)
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
• Strong game engine technology development skills in Unity and/or Unreal (preferably Unity)
• Adept at handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication
• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
• Strong project management and time management skills
• Ability to communicate with others
• Strong team player
• Previous experience in emerging technology fields a plus
Students interested in creative/visual design are expected to have the following experience and skills:
• Demonstrated experience in 2D or 3D art, animation, or UX/UI experience design using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Maya, or similar
• Familiarity with game engine technologies such as Unity and Unreal
• Ability to quickly adapt and prototype new types of visual technologies
• Strong project management and time management skills
• Ability to create compelling visual presentations and demonstrations
Summer Content Innovation Associate Program Details
The program runs for 10-12 weeks and applicants must be willing to commit to a full-time schedule on-site at the Sony Music offices in Culver City. The start date for the program will be in late May 2019.

Sony Music will own all Intellectual Property created by the associates and can either commercially distribute the completed projects or continue to refine internally. Upon conclusion of the program, associates may seek permission to include some or all of the work they produced in personal portfolios/reels with proper credits attributed to Sony Music, and for non-commercial use only.
