Sony Music Entertainment is a global leader in audio entertainment that works in partnership with music and podcasting talent to develop and maximize their creative and commercial opportunities. We are seeking an Associate Director, Insights & Reporting for our Podcasting business. This is a great opportunity for a creative data-savvy candidate to develop Sony Music’s approach to research & analytics on its podcasts
The Associate Director, Insights & Reporting is responsible for generating strategic insights through social, digital and consumer research tools, as well as internal transactional data, to ensure the consumer perspective is kept top of mind across Sony Music’s new podcast business. The Associate Director will both direct projects generate data-driven recommendations, ultimately translating the actionable insights into presentation format. The candidate will be part of Sony Music’s podcast team in New York City and will report into the Senior Director, Insights & Reporting.
Responsibilities
• Support the Sony Music podcast divisions across all areas by responding to a large volume of internal requests that require synthesizing multiple disparate data sources for a single holistic view of the consumer
• Manage podcast-related research requests across creative/content development, marketing, ad sales, business development brand partnerships, leveraging full suite of analytical tools
• Provide automate timely reports on performance, charting, engagement metrics for key podcast titles to inform real-time decision making
• Generate actionable recommendations across marketing, advertising, partnerships, and content development, ensuring the voice of the consumer is always heard
• Track analyze data across current emerging podcast services/apps to understand audience, content offerings and partner performance
• Generate analyses across multiple data sources to help evaluate potential content ideas and podcast hosts
• Pro-actively identify new insight or analytical capabilities in the podcast space, including but not limited to new projects and vendors
• Consolidate findings and recommendations into presentations for podcast production and centralized teams
• Coordinate with executives across the podcast teams to ensure all analytical needs are being addressed
Qualifications
• Minimum 8 years experience in market/consumer research, social media measurement, advertising planning, media/entertainment research, audience measurement or related field
• Understand how to present data clearly – orally, in writing, and in presentations
• Possess a strong knowledge and passion for podcasts is a must.
• Prior experience in podcast roles preferred
• Expert using cross-tabs, survey analysis tools and SPSS statistical software
• Experience analyzing social data identifying relevant insights from social listening content analytics tools (e.g. Crimson Hexagon, Sysomos, BrandWatch Netbase, CrowdTangle, Spredfast, Affinio, Instagram Analytics, Tubular, Canvs, etc)
• Strong experience with knowledge of industry research providers such as NPD, Nielsen, Simmons/MRI and youth trend research providers
• Experience leveraging advanced analytic tools to synthesize multiple data sources automate analyses (e.g. SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, web scraping, etc)
• Strong familiarity of the latest trends in consumer behavior, media/entertainment, advertising, brands, and social media
• Strong Excel, PowerPoint, presentation design writing skills a must
• Strong understanding of digital media (e.g. social media, digital video, audio streaming, etc)
• Be organized and handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency & speed
• Have a “customer service” mentality to ensure the needs of podcast teams and senior management are met in a timely and satisfactory manner
• Bachelors degree with a concentration in Analytics / Psychology / Marketing / Consumer Behavior preferred (or equivalent work experience)
