Sony/ATV Music Publishing New York is seeking an Attorney to join our Business and Legal Affairs department.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Draft and negotiate all types of publishing agreements, including co-publishing , purchase agreements, administration agreements, modifications/extensions, etc.
• Respond promptly to requests from various internal and external clients.
• Work with royalty personnel on responses to audit claims. Negotiate and draft audit settlement agreements.
• Work with Sony in-house litigation staff and outside counsel on litigation matters: Review claims, coordinate responses to discovery requests, review answers, motion papers, briefs, etc.
• Work closely with A&R staff on preparation of proposals.
• Prepare and circulate deal approval memos
• Advise internal clients on legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures, approval processes, copyright issues, company policies and procedures, intellectual property and agreement strategy.
• Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• JD degree and must be a member in good standing of the New York bar
• Prior Music Publishing legal experience preferable
• Prior experience negotiating and drafting various types of music business agreements
• 2 years minimum post graduate relevant experience
• Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking
• Exceptionally organized, meticulous, and detail-oriented
• Team player with ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to handle high volume of transactions and interact with various departments
• Ability to consistently work under pressure in a professional manner; excellent problem solver
• Ability to use analytical thought process to make fast paced decisions
• Ability to effectively interact and communicate at all levels including Sr. Management, A&R staff, and Artists/Writers/ Lawyers/ Management
