Full Time Paid Internship
2020 Spring Internship-Library & Archives (Washington, D.C.)
The Spring 2020 Intern-Library & Archives will will gain experience with the various tasks of a production-based media library & archives, including cataloging, processing digital media files, and conducting research for original productions and special projects. Interns work closely with Library & Archives staff and obtain hands-on experience with numerous digital media formats and an in-house database. Informational sessions are scheduled with other departments within the company, and there are many opportunities to observe and engage with the process of documentary film production
Responsibilities:
• Catalog raw footage, edited programs, and/or other media assets in a Collective Access database using a PBCore-derived metadata schema
• Arrange and describe camera original digital video files, following Smithsonian Channel's processing guidelines and policies
• Organize supporting documents (mostly PDF and Microsoft Office tiles} for broadcast programs according to office policies
• Conduct archival footage research and/or factual research for in-house productions using in-house and external databases
• Assist in updating department documents, such as the Cataloging Guide and Processing Guide, as needed
• Attend weekly department meeting, as schedule allows
Qualifications:
Required:
• Current undergraduate student (rising junior or above) desire from an intern)
• Strong Interest in the Cable/Entertainment Industry
• 2.50 GPA or above
• Submission of a cover letter''' required
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to work and prioritize work assignments
• Able to provide administrative support as needed
Preferred:
• Active participation in extracurricular activities; clubs; and/or associations. Leadership positions while maintaining an above-average GPA, a plus
• Cable television experience a plus
• Prior internship experience in a related field, a plus
• Current graduate student in Library/Information Science or Moving Image Preservation
• Must be proficient in Mac OS
• Familiarity with video production a plus
