This is a Full Time Job
As a Layout TD you will support and enhance the Layout Department's technical & workflow needs and oversee Tech Assistants.
Responsibilities
• Constructs shots in 3d space to provide a visual run-through of the sets.
• Communicates the story based on the storyboards and gives a cinematic aspect to the scenes.
• Aids in the rough layout of the scenes following the storyboards to show how the characters and environments appear on camera.
• Utilizes storyboard animatics to create 3d scenes through character blocking and acting.
• Applies the visuals provided by character design and modeling to create the rough layout of the scenes
• Ability to generate temporary FX, rigs, and assets to support the rough layout process.
• Has an understanding of the artistic workflow in order to support artistic needs.
• Leads the Layout TA team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic, technical and professional growth, making sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction and that achieves the deadlines.
• Follows the Supervisor's guidance.
• Prioritizes and manages your internal team's times for the assigned sequence/task.
• Possesses a strong sense of collaboration with other department leadership and technical workflows.
• Learns and utilizes Skydance's internal pipeline.
• Oversees the workflow steps from Scouting & Rough layout to Final Layout/Anim prep. This includes initial scene file prep & build with correct assets and editorial information. Once Rough Layout is approved, conform files/shots to the latest edit, publish assets and deliver downstream.
• Helps troubleshoot any workflow issues.
• Helps prioritize tool needs & improvements.
• Keeps up on current technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the production (and the company) in the development of a stronger creative technical environment.
Requirements
• 6 years of professional experience in VFX or animation industries.
• At least 1 year of experience as Lead in the animation industry.
• Understanding how tool use supports efficient cinematic storytelling.
• Knowledge of Maya, USD, Python, Mel, and overall CG workflow in a Windows environment.
• Advanced English level.
• Spanish oral and written, is desirable.
